Biggest game at Wembley he didn’t go missing. Made a goal and crossed a fantastic ball and albeit for an absolutely out of this world dive would have been a goal.

There’s no denying he is technically brilliant but his fitness levels aren’t where they need to be. He usually starts strong and goes quiet in the second half. Not sure if the blame should be directed at our fitness team for this.

They must take some of the blame, for the fitness issues! Half the team don't look fit enough, 60mins & there bolloxed!

We’ve got a replacement under our nose. Brooks played left side really well but was benched by Hamer on that side then by JRS on the right, use him or lose him, mark my words. Next season should be his breakout season and I think he could do a job like Mayenda and can only get better. Every time he came on including Wembley he lifted the team and he’s got a nose for goal.

No the best premier league players are consistent repeated sprints and Hamer and the vast majority of Championship players can’t do that and hence they end up in a relegated premier league team if they are fancied.

These are fit lads but the championship requires fitter and faster than ever, they will only play in the championship if they can’t
 
It's weird how Hamer could last 80-90 mins in the Premier League despite scoring goals and getting assists, and yet he can only manage 60-65 mins in the Championship.
 
Hamer will do well at a decent Prem side. He won’t need to run for 90 mins, as 60 mins would be great for most Prem Teams as they have strong benches. My guess is that he’ll end up at Everton for circa £25 million
 
His fitness issues aren't around how many minutes he plays or how many games it's around him being slow to.reactbto danger and constantly coughing up possession

That might have had something to do with how shit our bench was last year. Plus the scoreline was usually unsalvageable after 60 mins anyway so didn't really matter if we got fresh legs on or not.

Yes you're right about the total games he's featured in (think my list just missed off the games he didn't play in). He featured in 44 league games including the playoffs so he missed 5 games. When he started his average time on the pitch is still 83 minutes, and he played 90 minutes in 21 (so 48%). I don't know if the 90 minutes means until the end or literally into injury time (altho either way it doesn't suggest being taken off at 70). Here's his minutes for the last 10 games he played:
90, 90, 90, 90, 85, 90, 60, 85, 72, 72 (playoffs in bold)

We know in his last game he went off injured and the previous two games against Bristol there wasn't really a need to keep him on and risk it. The 60 minutes was against Blackburn last game of the season and Wilder was resting a few for the playoffs (Davies was in net and Holding, McCallum and Cannon also started) which probably explains why he was taken off early.
 
Whilst I totally agree Hamer needs to work on his fitness/conditioning.

Whether that is entirely his own doing or that he's been carrying an injury is another matter. We can't actually say despite the general opinion. He's clearly not totally out of shape otherwise he wouldn't be able to compete at all.

But let's not do the typical Sheffield United thing of if he is leaving he's now crap. He really isn't. Deep down we know he's very talented and about the best midfielder at the level we are still at. (Hence the award)

If he goes, which I suspect he will. A replacement will be needed. Id expect not quite the full fee to be reinvested.

Then there are two ways of looking at replacing him though. One is to do as like for like replacement. Which I would think searching abroad would be your best bet.

Or you tweak how we play and sign one or two players for that system.

Personally I feel the system needs evolving anyway. Id think most would think the same. Id rather we didn't play the inverted wingers and go more dedicated pacey wingers. Brooks could still work in this system too for his development.

I'd like Hamer to stay however. He is a bonfire top end championship player. Who can also compete at the level above. But I do feel that's unlikely.
