were either saving him for leicester or were making sure he doesnt get injured 😉🤔

Loads seem to think he’s off during this window, not sure what performances this season that opinion comes from. He’s been surpassed by a few players, despite him being capable of the outrageous.

Think of it this way:

Q:Would every other team in the league want him?
A:Yes

If we can, keep him. It's not rocket science.

Doesn't get on our best side for me 🤔

Isn't a wide player.
He's our most gifted player but at the moment he doesn't fit in. Who do you leave out for him and what is his best position.
He came on last night and looked lost wide left. He did a couple of cameo runs, cutting inside and getting a shot off but overall was ineffective.
To be honest i'm flummoxed as to where he plays.

Any stat people have stats on games won without Gus? It's a terrible thought as I love him but maybe he's a luxury player we don't "need" to be effective after all? 😬

Matches where Hamer has started:
P12 W3 D0 L9
(win ratio 25%)

Matches where Hamer didn't start:
P14 W7 D2 L5
(win ratio 50%)

The match was over by the time he came on so it's bit unfair to say he was ineffective when the intensity had substantially dropped.

Id love to see him given a go in the Duffy role. It's something we've not had since Duffy fell out with wilder. It's maybe worth experimenting in the Mansfield game?

Davies
Bindon McGuiness Zatterstrom
Seriki Soumare Arblaster Burrows
Hamer
Campbell Cannon

Anyway, we'd be crazy to let him go in the window unless he genuinely wants to leave and we receive a crazy offer. He's our most talented player by a mile and is (usually) so good to watch.

Last season we were a poor team with no system that needed moments of magic which Hamer could provide.

This season we’re a much better all round team and aren’t as reliant on individual brilliance.

He absolutely stunk the place out yesterday. Go watch the third goal and see him, Burrows and Campbell fuck about with before it comes across to Arblaster, Chong & Seriki who just go direct and score.

It's an interesting one. If he doesn't play from the start I suspect he will leave. He is still a great player, but we seem a better all round team with him on the bench strangely.

For me, Hamer doesn’t currently fit perfectly in our plan A. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be looking to get him in the side as much as possible though.

Some on here (myself included) have moaned about a lack of plan B when things aren’t going well. That particular blueprint should revolve around Gus IMO. He is without doubt the most talented player we have and we should be looking at ways to get the most out of him when he’s available and on the pitch. For me, that should be in the number 10 role.

Bit harsh on him there. It was Hamer that started the switch back across to the right. I've timestamped the moment below.

Hamer is now a dilemma for himself and the club.
With his contract finishing next season , and the potential to leave on a free, plus the new EFL regulations on transfers and wages, the club will ideally want to sell him, but there is no way whatsoever will he want to leave Bramall Lane whilst: His mate wilder is his boss, he doesn't have to leave and impress a new boss and a new set of supporters every week (which with his age and fitness will be nigh-on -impossible) , when he can stay at BDTBL and take a very generous salary, and play when he wants, how he wants.
Another example of the sickly massive issue at United with the pally pally scenario between Wilder, Bettis and players ,!

I think your way wide of the mark.

I think he has an idea of moving closer to Holland potentially. And I think it's very unlikely he will sign a new deal.
If he won't sign a new deal we will try to sell him for a pretty low fee all things considered.

And I think he's enjoyed it here but will be open to going.

He's not ambitious enough to get himself fit and improve his disciplinary record.
The time for him to snag a move up the pyramid was straight after being voted midfield player of the season.
I think he'll sit it out at half-speed until we yet again have to lose a high fee player for nowt.
When will we learn that we need players on an upward trajectory so that we can start trading for a profit on transfers ?
The fees we've paid for nil return have helped to sink us financially.
We've no chance of becoming even a poor man's version of Bournemouth , Brentford or Brighton.
We haven't a clue how to recruit , develop & trade.
Nothing will change until the current mediocre regime is replaced.
But the owners don't have the first inkling of the why or the how to do it.
So we fans watch grimly on , exasperated , as the club's 7 year flow of money expires with only regression in the quality of the squad.
And if one has the temerity to suggest that a better job could have been done , the cries of "you're too entitled" come raining down on one's head.
Well - the proof of the pudding is in the eating - and what's laid before us now is pretty unappetising.
The saddest thing is that the owners are miles away from understanding their own business or the market in which it operates.
So they fiddle while Rome burns , unable to recognise & deal with incompetence , but giving us fireworks & free burgers 🙄

He looks good rarely in our poor side, expensive, lazy, unfit, not bothered, the money and comfort is obviously good for him, he has the potential but lacks the bollocks to be a blade, these players are top earners surely united scouts can find better.....no they obviously can't, bring Billy Sharp back he's a blade, try Marsh when he's fit, RND is better at the moment than we have on the left and we have invested loads, nowt to loose

Turning into the Mousett mindset. Had his moments but one who should go now, however much it will disappoint the star struck staff at Dronfield Sainsbury's

No dilemma for club at all, just cash in on him and use the funds elsewhere

He's only ever been a moments player. Some great ones mind you.

I am not sure we will get much for him but hopefully we can trick two into a bidding war

There’s some revisionism on this thread. Some people wouldn’t know a decent player if they played in front of them for a few seasons and won Championship player of the season!
Yep a quality player about to be 'hounded out' cus he cant run his bollocks off for 90 mins. Admittedly his professionalism leaves something to be desired but he is the type of player you have to put an arm around and encourage.

We can find a lot of Rothwell type players out there but the likes of Hamer come along oncnever 5 years if we are lucky.

If he goes it will be his choice and not for being hounded out.

I like Gus and he's one of our few players worth watching. However the team does seem more effective without him and to me it's a 'no brainer' to cash in while he still has some value.
