Gus Hamer - Championship POTS

How on earth has Hamer won the Championship player of the season? What the fuck.

He’s obviously a fantastic player but that clearly shows how overrated he is because how did he win it over Dan James, Trafford etc the list can go on.

I’m happy for the lad but that’s an absolute robbery.
Best player in the league by a mile

Whilst I love Gus, for his ability but also his effort, I am surprised he won.

For example Footmob have him 4th in their stats, behind Trafford, Firpo and Solomon, and just ahead of Brownhill. But Whoscored have him 17th, with Firpo and Solomon the top two. Opta have him nowhere!

The one stat he does win is his most MOTM awards, perhaps showing how reliant we are on him, and how he stands out to anyone watching us.

And Firpo not ahead of Burrows is even more surprising!

Not like United fans to talk up players of other clubs. Isn't this award voted for by fellow pro's? Clearly impressing those who know a lot more about football than the average fan on here.

Not a team in this league that Haner wouldn't walk into. Maybe it's recognition of the fact he's carried us, singlehandedly at times, to 3rd place. We'd be utterly fucked without him.

Well done Gus 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Well done Gus. I've not seen anyone better than him.

On another note, how has Brownhill not made the team of the year???? Bellingham in there is a joke
Saw someone comment that for the team of the season it's max 3 per club which is why Brownhill doesn't make the cut.

Great player. His consistency let's him down (short passes get intercepted all too often), but that's why he's playing for us and not someone like Wolves or Palace.

No.
That’s the PFA awards - not yet ‘announced’.
According to the EFL website this is “judged by a panel of leading experts from the football industry and stakeholders” - I’m led to believe that previous incumbents have included Simon Jordan, Neil Warnock, Andy Hinchcliffe Patrick Bamford & the chairperson of the Coventry Cathedral Appreciation Society.

This thread reminds me of all those times that 20,000 professional footballers from around would vote to have Sergio Ramos in the FIFPro team of the year and fans would immediately bleat about how scandalous it was that he was ever selected. This would happen, like clockwork, every single year from 2011 to 2020.

As all award ceremonies are inherently nonsensical it doesn't really matter except it's some source of pride for Gus Hamer and Sheffied United, and anything that pisses off Leeds fans is something to be welcomed.

Whether Hamer remains with us next season or doesn't, and regardless that he's been played in a position which doesn't even get the best out of him, it's been a pleasure for me to have seen him in our colours. It's nice to actually see a footballer who can do things with the ball that thrill and excite. We see very few of those.

A lot of you need to remember that Hamer has carried us this season much on his own, we don't have much attacking flair and "shit to watch", but with the few moments of excitement and attacking prowess it's mainly from Hamer.

That's why he's won it and is ahead of these other players been mentioned.

It's easy to have good stats and look the part when surrounded by other good players, just remebr that when your claiming Leeds and burnley players should be ahead of him.

Gus is by far the most talented player in the league, if he was in Leeds team playing way they do, he would be frightening even more so.

Imagine this team without Gus Hamer

Well done Hamer, like others have said some good competition for the award but he has undeniable moments of quality. If he could pull it off consistently he would be at a top 10 team and not with us. Without him we would be considerably worse.

Although I have been critical of him at times (i'm critical of everything) i'm glad he's our player!

Well deserved.

If he was in Leeds squad this season he would have looked absolutely quality but unfortunately for Gus he practically carries us in periods and therefore doesnt have as much to rely on around him.

He gets too many bookings ... we know that but other than the bookings it's hard to pick fault.

Even though he hasn't played in midfield this season, Hamer is the best midfielder in the league, and Brownhill is a close second.

Esteve is the best CB in the league, and for me, he's been Burnley's best player.

On his day, Josh Sargent is probably the best striker in the Championship, just not this season, and Sainz has had a better season for Norwich than him.

Goals wise, Piroe has been the best striker this season, but he isn't Leeds' best player, that's James or Tanaka.

Cooper and Trafford are difficult to separate in terms of best keeper, we'll say it's Cooper, Burnley will say it's Trafford, and everyone else will choose between the two.
