United have submitted an outline application to the Council for the South Stand redevelopment. Apparently, applications have to be received by the local authority by next Friday (21st) to comply with the FIFA deadline for the World Cup bid, so wednesday are expected to submit theirs before then too.

Unfortunately the online applications portal is offline at the moment, but those wishing to have a gander at the South Stand plans should go to http://planning.sheffield.gov.uk/publicaccess/dc/DcApplication/application_searchform.aspx and key in the Application Reference 09/02488/OUT, however the site is expected to be down until Monday.

The Kop plans are under App Ref 09/00602/FUL if anyone's not seen them yet.

Haven't taken a lot of notice of the World Cup stuff but I did read somewhere that theirs is based, almost entirely, on getting all sorts of grants and hand-outs to do the ground up (a bit like the Stand that they had paid for to stage games in '66).

Will we benefit to a similar tune if we are selected or are they, as paupers, the only recipient of such charity?

The only grants available will be for any community projects, such as their learning centre - AKA 'The naughty boys club' (cue Pervy Blade Daz..)

Anything which is purely football based - i.e stands, hotel etc will need to be paid for by them. Which in essence is where their plan falls over. They are submitting the scheme for consideration in order to meet the FIFA deadline but the actual development will be reliant on investment coming in, so obviously no investment = no shiny new sty... :D

At least we know that we have the funds in place to implement ours. Thanks Carlos... Thanks Kyles...

Planning Applications

Can anyone get access to the South Stand planning application. I want to see them.

Ps. Stop booing our palyers blades we need to get behind all of them or no way will they work for the team.

Not a good scanned copy but shows how the internal development will look.

Apparently, the piggies don't really have a hope in hell at present. From what I've heard, the FA fell out with them big-time with the last FA Cup Semi-Final they had (Middlesbrough v. Chesterfield in 1997).

There's a requirement for fans to be away from the ground within a certain amount of time of the final whistle. On that day it took far longer to get everyone out of the stands and away from the Hillsborough area so they were told they'd never get another big game.

No tunnel either :D

Oh no... perhaps we'll come out in the corner... I hate that. Dunno why it just isn't the same and seems take an age for the teams to get to the half wayline.

Looks great but far to big for a team that averages 25,000... Is there any major evidence that crowds increase massively IF you become a top 10 PL side?

For a 40,000 ground we'd need to be increasing our averages by around 40% to make it really worthwhile.

I like BDTBL when its full, the place bounces and at the moment its almost always 75% full.

I understand the improvements to the Kop, but being cynical I can't see us filling the lane regularly as a 40,000 ground.

I hate the atmosphere of half empty grounds

IMHO, the only way this would happen is if we actually won something (ha!) or contended for the league title (ha!), or if Wednesday somehow disappeared and Sheffield became a one club city.
