One caller on FH last night said that Halford wouldn't even get into his pub team... so what's your verdict as the consensus seems to range from slow, clumsy and crap to assured, comfortable and useful?

Personally, and moving away from the football here, I believe he should take his shirt off more.

More sensible input than mine is required I think! :D

I think hes a good player! Would love to see him sign permantly!

I would be really happy if we signed him permanent.

He is a little inconsistent, but if he wasnt, he would be playing at higher level than this.

:D

On my one and only visit to goodison in may 1990, I had the displeasure of seeing Raymond Atteveld remove his shorts and throw them into the crowd after the game. No one needs to see a dutchman in a jockstrap and one sock running away from a crowd of feral scouse teenage lasses with the scent of shorts in their nostrils. It's a slippery slope linz.

I would be happy for Halford to sign, he is definitely a player who has got something about him.

He is no world beater, but he is a United type of player ;)

In the few games I've seen him play in, he seems to be a very versatile player who can do a reasonable job in several different positions (including centre forward, watch for that possibility on Saturday!). I think he might have been one of those very gifted youngsters who let it all go to his head and he went off the rails for a time. It could've all got away from him, but he seems to be approaching this spell with the Blades in a more mature way, recognising he doesn't have too many chances left. I would opt for signing him, if possible, as long as he promises to keep his shirt on! We don't want more spice boys!!

I'd be happy to sign him, if wages weren't too much of an issue. I'd rather not play him on the right wing though - he's not the pacey winger we need to play decent football, I don't think.

Goes about his job quietly, in a number of different positions.

Solid player.

That's my main issue with him. He's a decent player but not a right winger. Where his strongest position is, I'm yet to see. Steady, solid, dependable, reliable, strong. All great attributes for a CB or HM maybe? Or maybe even a target man? :)

All this talk of playing Halford as a striker is starting to worry me!

Was impressive last night in the 2nd half, was used a make shift target man intermittantly, cutting in from the right. Only criticism of him i'd have is that he appears too lethargic on the ball at times, which prompts shouts of '..gerron wi'it...' from me and other blades! :D

Scored only one less than Billy Sharp and the same number as both Webber and Henderson :D

Start of his spell i didn't lke him that much, especially when he wasn't getting into the team, but now ive warmed to him, very versatile, does go about it quietly with little praise yet does his job very well. From the sounds of it he had a really good game last night and his height is definatly an advantage.

I hope we buy him. His height is a big advantage and so are his long throws. He doesnt get flustered, scores one or two and is still young.

yes his long throws are a massive advantage. id argue he throws it further than delap. thing that pisses me off, stoke score from his because they obviously train on them. how often does anything come of halfords throws? :~ think we should def sign him

I wonder if Halford could throw the ball completely from one wing to the other then, Bromby throw it back?
Seriously though we should take better advantage of this usefull long throw!

I keep on asking this, and nobody ever answers ..... but wasn't he a centre-back at Colchester when Warnock was first linked with him? I like Halford, but he ain't a midfielder to me.

He's played at CB and also CF.

He was moving between CB and CM when Warnock was linked. Shortly after (i think) they put him up front.

I think Halford would be a useful addition to the squad. He never seems to panic and is very calm and assured on the ball (almost like someone who has been on the Rastafarian Woodbines, nothing implied).

Not too bothered about seeing him on the right wing because he doesn't run at defenders enough, I still think we ought to let Kyle do that and have Halford at RB. It would also be useful having his height in our box when defending corners, free-kicks, back post crosses etc.

The thought of him playing as a striker worries me though. Not for his ability to do the job but after Hendos latest I was kinda hoping we might stop banging it up front every time we got the ball now there is no big striker in the team.

I think hes a great player for the blades. He does what is asked of him and enables Naughton to overlap due to his defensive skills.

Personally I think hes more suited to a central role than a wide one, but with Naughton at right back we need cover for when he gets caught out.

I wouldn't be too worried about seeing him play up front. Firstly Blackwell doesn't have the b@lls to make such a change. But if he was to play there, he'd probably do the same reliable job he does wherever we ask him to play.

Given that hes scored more goals than most of our strikers anyway and he scored a good few goals playing upfront for Colchester he probably is capable of doing it.....
