In the early 90s I boycotted a few games at the Lane in protest at what I saw as the Blades signing their own death warrant by voting for the premier league concept. This boycott didn't last long but I made my point, if only to myself.

However, re the Greg Dyke proposals, I am setting out now that I will never watch a competitive match where we are playing another team's reserves.

I'm with you there

I've watched us play shite like Crawley, Stevenage and Colchester. I'm sure as hell not going to stop going just because we might be playing Man United B.

If we actually get good again, we might even benefit from having a B team.

The trouble with the people in power is that they don't actually consult fans. That is not to say that they have to implement all things the fans think but don't dismiss us as knowing nowt.

There is no way we would be allowed a B team.

In the eys of the FA, et al, our near neighbours would ALWAYS take precedence over US, and there will be no way that they would be able to put forward a B team.

the money teams would just buy every player showing potential and play them in their own b teams leaving the rest of the lower leagues watching even lower standard of football because not only would we not keep our own talented kids we wouldn't get decent/quality loan players to supplement and improve the team.
its a crap idea that favours the few and shits on the majority

Has FA thought out how lower league financial fair play bollox would affect said b teams ie Rooney coming back from injury in the b squad would swallow up the b teams entire budget so maybe Rooney vs fleetwood town on a freezing Tuesday night game :)

Here are a few points on the stupidity of the FA Commission:

1. Premier League b is based on flawed logic. The Premier League has so much money it attracts the best players from every country in the world. England is a tiny country so it makes sense that there will only be a small proportion of English players in the Premier League since you have to be one of the best in the world to play there. There are 20 clubs and 18 match day players including subs ie. the Premier League has the 360 best players in the world. Yes it is ONLY 360 so there won't be many English amongst them.

2. The English players who don't make the Premier League play in the Championship. Before the money brought all the overseas players to the Premier League the players that now play in the Championship used to play in Division 1 and the Premier League and they played for England if they were the best. If England can't fill its team from the Premier League it will have to go to the Championship. I doubt the quality of English players has gone down, it's just that they play in the Championship since we have effectively imported a "world league" at the top of our pyramid.

2. Premier League academies are full of overseas players so Premier League b will be full of overseas players NOT English players. More flawed logic!

3. Premier League teams are stockpiling talent so much so that only some of their players would get competitive football anyway. Does that mean we need Premier League c and then d?

4. The commission needs to treat the cause not the symptom. The cause is the Premier League which was formed so that the "big teams" keep most of the money generated by the industry. The inevitable consequence of this is that, broadly speaking, whoever has the most money wins the league. The media dare not say this as they are part of the industry and create the hype that sells the tickets and the Sky subscriptions.

Amusingly, now that Man U etc no longer have the most money they want to change the rules AGAIN hence financial fair play. Beyond belief!

And finally, what has all the money done for the Premier League? 15 out of 20 teams don't want to win the league they just want to avoid relegation. The other 5 teams aren't bothered about winning the league either, they just want to get into the champions league, so in fact, not one premier league team actually wants to win the league. But don't worry, because it's the best league in the world the competition doesn't matter that much since the Premier League clubs have got all the money and with all that money you can pay all the best young players to NOT play football. You couldn't make it up!

Rant over!

Dose of reality though. They will get their own way, they don't give a flying fig about the rest of us.

Fat cats at FA care FA about no one else.

I too won't watch it.

The proposal is that B teams will not be allowed promotion to the Championship. In 12 months time after picking up 138 points next season, we shall be in the Championship, so your resolution will not be tested. In fact, if we get maximum points, I wouldn't be surprised if we get fast tracked straight into the Premier League, giving us a whole league cushion :-)

Just out of interest, would you watch a league match between Sheffield United v Sheffield Wednesday B Team ?

I'm probably the only person that doesn't want us to play in the premier league!
No your not swiss, look at my post from friday in the league shake up thread
All these proposals will do is make the premiership richer and the rest of us weaker ,like they have been doing all along.Football is getting ridiculous.

Eventually all the big clubs in europe will be in one big league, and i don't mean the champions league, which by the way isn't even won by champions of their respective leagues sometimes:rolleyes:

The quicker they do this the better for me,lets keep us proper football folk together and fuck the big time tossers off

see swiss you definately are not the only one

Good to know. Ever since the tevez issue, I've had a bad taste in my mouth from the PL.

I think its time to cut the prem league loose be like cutting out a cancerous tumour personally think the league would thrive without them
I think so to..it's time the Football League clubs fought back.
What would happen if we threatened to cut them adrift and the Football League clubs plus Conference teams, and any of the also rans in the Prem who wanted to join us,formed a new Football League ran on a fairer, less greedy premise, with young players given a chance, and money filtering down to the grass roots in a fairer manner, cheaper pricing for fans etc.
We'd still get teams attracting decent crowds..we'd still get TV companies willing to show games along with sponsors willing to put money in....I'm sick of the greedy top clubs and Premier League,Stockpiling Players, blackmailing lesser clubs to toe the line 'or else'..and feathering their own nests...This latest idea of a Prem B is a joke, but the problem is they're not joking, and will probably get there own way.

I think they look at 2 leagues , spain and Germany thats won the world cup recently and think oh they have b teams , perhaps we should , whereas they should look at how money from tv is distributed , In those countries it not just kept by the top 20 greedy bastards , the top clubs get more , but teams lower down get more than crumbs off the bread board clubs below the prem get

If we didnt pay so much to foreign imports and blew all the sky money on the already haves , our young players might , just might make better progress. Too many players sit week in week out with their arses planted on recaro seats as 4th 5th 6th and 7th sub , and if they cant see that they are fooking blind
How on earth are our young talent going to get better in a 4th tier game, v Braintree , which smart arse thought that up and accrington v stoke city b , cant see many paul gascoignes shining through that one

for god sakes share the dosh out so those outside the top 20 can nurture our future players , like they used to

I am quite sure that we were one of the few Div 1 teams (either in 1990-91 or in 1991-92) that voted against The Premier League. Derek Dooley said at the time "we are against the idea of having a Premier League, but if there is one then we would like to be part of it". I remember in the 1970s when John Tudor was a Newcastle player he said in Shoot! that he thinks England should have a Super League. The idea was mooted by some leading football figures for many years before the PL started.

Yes, I'd probably have a season ticket anyway so I would go.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want that to happen, and I don't think it will, we're on the upward trajectory and the pigs will remain shit for time to come. The fact remains that I support the Blades and I enjoy watching them, whoever they're playing. I'm not going to ruin my enjoyment of going to the match to stage a small protest against something I have no control over. Change will happen whether we want it or not. Just enjoy watching the Blades.

The proposals are dreadful for football in the lower leagues.
The 10 B teams for Premiership clubs are a bad idea, and is the thin end of a wedge,
It's obvious that after a year a two it will be stated that playing Conference and 4th tier teams isn't improving young players, in fact the quality of football and 'brutality' of lower league players is affecting them. Especially as soon as a crude challenge causes an injury to one of these precious future stars.
It won't be long for the push to allow B teams to play in the Championship is made.
Also, why 10 Premiership teams, and which ones? The ones not included will soon push to have a B team as well claiming an unfair advantage for the other teams. And what happens if one of these teams is relegated, maybe to the same league as their B team?
Lower league teams will be relegated to make way for these B teams.

I actually think the other proposal to allow lower league teams to 'affiliate' with Premiership and Championship teams and to have 8 players on loan is worse though.
Clubs will totally lose their own identity and young players in those clubs will not have a chance of ever playing if the club is having to play 8 youth players from their parent club ahead of them. Which is a joke anyway, not just Premiership clubs produce future England players.
We know from our own experience in the Championship that in most cases loan players don't give a toss about the club they are on loan at. It's usually about them and getting themselves experience / playing time for when they return to their parent club.
Lower league players, fans and managers won't appreciate this either. I wouldn't want to support a club with this arrangement or play against one, and there was actually a manager on the radio this morning saying he wouldn't want 8 inexperienced young players in his team as it's his job on the line. He said he's had highly rated youngsters before and they've frozen when played in front of bigger crowds and older, more experienced players.
Unfortunately, money talks and the FA and Premiership know this, but it might just kill competitive football and the clubs identity and history in the lower leagues.

And why, because the England team is so poor the FA think the majority of football fans, and more fans support lower league teams than Premiership teams, will accept their clubs and competitive league structure being decimated in the hope that England might one day win the World Cup.
I think they might find that most fans won't accept it. It would be nice if we could find some way of protesting. Maybe everyone should stop subscribing to Sky Sports as a starter.

I wouldn't pay to watch anyone's B-Team play United at BDTBL. If sufficient paying fans felt the same way, this proposal would kill the lower leagues stone dead, destroying an incredible history, culture and tradition.

The proposal is the logical extension of the Premier League model. A small elite which cannot be challenged from below, and therefore can guarantee its income in the long term. It has no interest in the social and geographical fabric of football. Its only interest is money.

If the FA want to improve the England team, they need to look at coaches and facilities at the grass roots. They can't take on the Premier League, even with this proposal which seemingly panders to it. The PL simply won't be dictated to.
