Just to be aware, John Burkhill with the green wig and the pram, who stands outside the church on matchdays collecting for charity is 80 next week.
Might be nice to wish him a happy birthday and all the best on the way to the match. I'm sure he'd appreciate a few bob in his bucket too.
ps I know it's a bit tentative for General Blades chat, hope i can be forgiven on this occasion. :)

Great call BD the lad does a tremendous job for MacMillan

My junior entourage and myself got a card for John on Saturday. We stopped and chatted for a bit and he says "people are coming up and giving me cards, there's something going on" :);)

He's pushing 85 now, and still raising money for MacMillan. Please give him a few bob when you see him down the 'Lane to help him reach his target.

Donate every time I see him, which is quite often as he seems to be everywhere. What a man he is.

Don’t wish to sound morbid, but he’s getting on now. It would be heartbreaking if John didn’t get to see his 1 million target being met before he passes. He’s a brilliant person, and I always chuck some change in his bucket when I see him. I might now make a point of actively seeking him out on match days.

Having left Sheffield twenty odd years ago, I was not aware of his efforts, so thank you for sharing this thread and link. The justgiving page also refers to a YouTube film about him which is well worth a watch, very inspirational. I will now make an effort to look for him next time I am able to get to BDTBL

Can’t miss him if you come up from the underpass at St Mary’s roundabout. He will be stood by the railings just before the petrol station on Bramall Lane

Looks like he’s done it!
Both John Burkhill and Kevin Sinfield should be the first two people on the next honours list. Both of them are fundraising giants for Macmillan and MND respectively.

Sincere congratulations to John on reaching his £1,000,000 target. A Sheffield legend.

Think somebody was chopping onions nearby when I saw him on Look North talking about how the pram he pushes was his daughter’s who sadly passed away.

The man is absolutely relentless. Many a time I used to see him from the top deck of the bus going into town early on a week day morning pushing his pram along Infirmary Road when I lived up that way.

There's a "do" for John at the Winter Gardens at 11.00 this Thursday morning.

Plans have been announced for a public event to celebrate Sheffield fundraiser John Burkhill reaching his £1m target for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Known as 'The Man with the Pram', Mr Burkhill, 84, reached the milestone in May after 16 years of fundraising.
Wearing his trademark green wig and pushing a pram, he has taken part in more than 1,000 races.
Mayor Colin Ross asked people attending the event on 17 August at the city's Winter Garden to wear green in tribute.
Mr Ross said: "I'm very proud to be hosting a civic event for John Burkhill, whose achievements have been nothing short of astounding.
"To raise over £1million for charity is no mean feat and it's only right that we honour John's achievements in a public setting for people to enjoy.
"I'd love to see people there, dressed in Macmillan green, celebrating John together.
"This will be a special celebration for John, for Macmillan and the city."
Mr Burkhill lost his wife, June, to cancer in 1993 - a year to the day after they lost their daughter, Karen, during a routine procedure.
He initially set a target of £250,000 but in 2013 raised that to the "magic million" mark.
Speaking in May after reaching £1m he said: "It seemed an impossible dream with an old pram, and a crazy thing for an old man to do but we've done it."
