great referee

Stuart Attwell has to be a geat referee. On almost every occaision that the assistant referee flagged somebody offside, he immediately blew the whistle. On the one and only time he did not, his judgement was due to his great vision. From 20 yards back from the offside line, he saw that the assistant referee had got the marginal offside wrong. He then placed his whistle into his lips, but instead of blowing it, he allowed Jonjo to keep doing what he told him to do before the game. I thought Jonjo was time wasting and deserved a booking, but no I was wrong, the ref was right.

I think he’d lost his pea. Pure and simple!
 
As much as I hate what happened last night, no one was marginally offside, Carroll was clearly on and the assistant ref should not have raised his flag, that was where the mistake happened. Egan was clearly playing him on whilst holding his hand up to claim the offside. That's what actually happened, all the rest of it around should the lino raise their flag, where VAR comes in, god only knows.

Agreed i don't like VAR as much as anyone else. But it didn't do anything wrong last night it correctly confirmed Newcastle were onside which is what the referee wanted checking..

The lino is the only one that should be coming in for stick imho.
 
That's where the confusion is. If the lino has been told to only raise the flag when it is clear and this is communicated to the players then Hendo would have assumed it was offside. The linesman made a clear mistake but not sure we could have recovered the situation if the flag had stayed down, he was well clear of anyone.

Yep poor offside trap, we just need to forget VAR and accept everyone was below their best. Chalk it off as a game to forget and move on to Norwich. Norwich isn't a must win but a back to back loss would be a bit of a blow to our confidence/momentum.
 
Also, after Shelvey scores, the ref blows his whistle and did his pointing along the line of offside gesture. I don't think he asked for a check, they just did it for him. He definitely ran to Shelvey to tell him off before the Stockley Park wankers told him it's worth a look.
 
What is remarkable is how so many differnt people saw and heard so many different things. Some saw Carol was DEFINATELY offside. Some saw him ONSIDE. Some people heard a whistle, others did not. Some saw the ref waive play on, others did not. Thank god it was nt a murder trial with so many unrelieable witnesses.

Why didn’t he blow then if he didn’t want Shelvey to play on, and wasn’t going to check VAR?

You're obviously looking to cross swords over VAR so I'm going to politely decline. You keep at it though.

I was commenting on how I interpreted the referee's actions. I don't know what he was thinking or why.
