Just a couple of graphs for you to think about today - and a few bits of news about Sheffield Club.

Graph 1 compares to my benchmark sets of results for promotion, either automatically or via the playoffs. These benchmarks take account of the specific opponent each week, which is why they are not straight lines. You can see from Graph1 that on 29 points we are still 2 points above the line to achieve certain playoffs, but have drifted 6 points behind the automatic promotion line.

Graph 2
adds our last 2 Championship promotion seasons to Graph1. From Graph 2 you can see that there are different ways to get to the same result. Warnock in 05/06 had a flying start to the season, 52 points in the first half of the season, but faded slightly later and ended 2nd with 90 points. Wilder in 18/19 had a decent start to the season, 38 points in the first half, but a strong finish to end 2nd on 89 points. You can see on Graph 2 that we are very close to the Wilder 18/19 season - just one point behind the 30 points that we had that year after 17 games. Warnock, by comparison, had a strong 41 points after 17 games.

Overall, we've drifted from a clear automatic schedule to a clear playoffs schedule - but as we saw in 18/19 that can be recovered with a decent consistent run, eliminating silly mistakes,

On another topic, Sheffield Club are looking on the rise in more ways than one. The new stadium to be built at Meadowhead was confirmed this week - should be ready for the 24/25 season. Ryan Cresswell, the manager, is a really good guy. He was on our academy books once and played for Wilder at Northampton. The new spine to the team - Pierrepont, Watson and Peterson has added some real steel and Club moved up to 8th in the table on Saturday. Mark Newsham is club captain and their version of Billy. They also have their own version of Iliman - a young Belgian lad called Basile Zottos. You should go to Dronfield and have a look - next home games are Tues 8th Nov against Ossett and Saturday 12th November against Consett. The 43 bus stops right outside the Coach & Horses (good pint of Jaipur), where the current ground is. You can catch the 43 from outside The Clubhouse pub in town - and outside The Cremorne.
