I don't think the club can be accused of not trying to improve the first team in recent years, and we have also seen a number of successful cover signings, that have helped us to reach targets. Hanson, O'Shea, Dowell, Craney, Besic, Jagielka, B.Davies.... are all ones who spring to mind.

JLT was brought in to cover for JOC. That was what, a hundred years ago?

We lost JOC but we never adequately replaced him…we carried on with JLT.

I would hope we are bringing in a proper replacement for Souttar, and Hanley might be a +1 in case of further injuries, who could provide cover here and there. We don't want to get caught out again with lack of numbers, like we did in the last few games.

We tried to use RND to replace JOC as well but then his hammy went ping and he hasn't really comeback from that.

Remember when you were a kid and you pestered your mum and dad for a certain toy or pair of trainers or whatever for christmas and they'd keep telling you they weren't made of money? Then come christmas they hint thye might have got you them after all but just as you're unwrapping, they say the fatal line "bloke down the market said this is exactly the same as the ones in the shops"?

This is the transfer equivalent.

I remember getting seriously excited one year as it was hinted that I was going to get a pair of Patrick Stabil trainers or even a pair of Nike Tiempo Turf. I did seriously well to hide the sheer disappointment as I unwrapped my present to find a pair of Patrick Liverpool trainers instead which were the equivalent of a fourth division club in the trainers world for a young kid.

As it transpired, the ones who had the shiny Stabil and NTTs in early January had ruined theirs by the end of the month (the former by pulling the tongues out mostly) whereas mine were seriously hard wearing and lasted donkeys years despite having some seriously heavy use.

Not sure what the moral of this story is. Maybe that sometimes the unfashionable item can prove to be better in the long run and be more dependable, or maybe that Patrick Liverpool were just better than their more glamorous counterparts. Maybe my parents knew better than me at the time afterall.

Still don't want Grant Patrick Liverpool Hanley though unless it's all we can bring in atm.....

I actually think the Anel and Robbo partnership is stronger than many do. We know Robbo has an error in him but Souttar did drop the occasional error too. Robbo hasn't done many since his introduction back into the team. I'd like a more commanding centre half to come in like Souttar but I guess it's whether we can attract and/or afford that with other areas if the team threadbare and maybe Wilder can't afford an upgrade on Robbo as well as strengthening other areas which are currently really weak, like up top and centre mid.

Hanley is as error prone as JLT. One is bad enough never mind 2. Hanley is not a direct replacement for Souttar he lacks any semblance of pace, doesn't read the game in the same manner as HS did and is 7 years older. I really hope for the sake of the team this is nonsense. If we want experience go for Holding at Palace who SISU are currently considering.

As for the Anel/ JLT partnership it just doesn't work as QPR at Home and Sunderland away proved. Anel needs an organiser alongside him in the mould of Egan. JLT is a liability in a 4 and drifts out of position. In the 11 games where Anel and Souttar played together for 90 minutes excluding SISU where Anel got himself sent off we only conceded 4 goals. Contrast that where JLT has started and we have conceded 3 times as many.

Replacing Souttar to play alongside Anel is probably the most critical transfer decision this window. Hanley is not the answer and to blindly assume we can get away with one or worse still 2 error prone centre backs is insane and seriously impacts our chances of achieving promotion. Omobamidele and / or Darling are must have replacements imo.

Hanley is absolute dogger & while he has some experience, it’s experience of being shit at football, running slower than a snail, being as mobile as a breeze-block & dropping many clangers.
To be clear - I’m not a fan.

Well okay, fair point but if they're a car crash, Grant Hanley is like that pileup at the end of Con Air involving a prisoner transport plane on the Las Vegas strip.

Hyperbole aside, he isn't a great answer to our defensive issues. To have Souttar the first half of the season and Hanley for the second is thoroughly depressing..

Absolutely no way in hell that Grant Hanley would be coming in as a replacement for Souttar. Omobamidele is the target for that.

Only reason I can see for Hanley being signed is to use him in training for the CF’s to practice wrestling with at set pieces.

He was not the answer, let's hope we go after a sensible option at Center Back now, and get them in as soon as so we have not only cover but hopefully someone who can fill the gigantic shoes of Souttar
