In 1990/91 season The Blades languished at the foot of the top flight for the first half of the season, after Christmas we signed Glyn Hodges on loan and he was pivotal in our run which eventually saw us escape the drop. Bassett had tried to sign him in our promotion season, however, as evidenced in The United documentary Bassetts requests for funds were greeted with chuckles from Derek Dooley and comments that the board wouldn't sanction release of such funds.

Anyway we wanted to sign Hodges after this but simply couldn't afford to so the club reached out to the fans for the funds via a Grand National sweepstake. Obviously this was laughable for a club in the top flight.

Given the admission today we literally don't have a pot to piss in and the fact that we can't pay our way will mean clubs won't do business with us, shall us fans raise funds so we can buy some players in summer it's Grand National on weekend so could reprise our 1991 effort?

We’ve signed a few horses who could do with being put out of their misery and being taken to the glue factory for their own sake…
