Player Suggestion Graham Carey

If you get Carey, your getting a hell of a player and we're gutted big style if we're losing him.
Not the best at tackling, but work rate, skill, sweet left foot and excellent dead ball merchant will be worth the entrance fee.
Good luck in the championship

Just looked into this lad a bit and according to Wiki

Came from Ireland to Celtic and didn't play, went on loan played a bit including Uddersfield, then went to St Mirren permanent where he played wing back/full back. Wanted a transfer in his last year was refused then left on a free to Ross County.

Won the league cup in Scotland then after contract ran out left for Plymouth where he has won POY....bit of a theme here!
Maybe he's a late bloomer, maybe having been played defensively early in his career slowed his progress. But he has done well for Plymouth, and if he's a free transfer I can't see him being a costly risk.
He's left footed, where we have Stevens, Lafferty at the moment and played wide left and attacking midfield for Plymouth.

If this is a goer, I can see him as a cog....part of the squad brought in for specific roles and tactics and if he has the guts and determination to make the most of his talents then who knows, He could be another gem.
But it is concerning that there has never really been any clamour for his services, and though I know I haven't been watching there doesn't appear to be a lot of news now either.

Thanks Devon boy. Why is it that nobody has come in for him over the last few years and why hasn't anyone come in for him this window? Is he on a free? Thanks in advance

Thanks for popping along....can you clarify a query I have.
Has Carey been subject to any interest elsewhere? Just a bit odd that he's only ever seemingly moved on a free so wonder if he then goes off the boil a little after a time.

I just tapped something similar about why no clamour for him if he's on a free. There seems to be a missing part to the jigsaw. We also have Nathan Thomas for the left side and I do worry we are starting to load up with similar players. Feels like we will take a risk on 10 in hope that 5 work out

To be fair, he was brought to Plymouth by the manager he had at Ross county so could be that loyalty is why he hasn't moved on.
But the thread on their fan site indicates most of their fans are confident he's re signing for them. He is a free transfer, and although a few are a bit miffed it's dragging on they are confident. There's the odd one who's "heard a whisper" he's staying...and also that his wife is up Scotland about to give birth so explains the delay....of course it could also be that United expressed an interest and had discussions weeks ago giving him a deadline to return if we want to offer a deal officially. And after giving up on another target (which is plausible) have made a concrete offer to Carey.
Hence him not committing to them.

In his situation I doubt he would go to another league one club, and we may be the highest placed or biggest club showing an interest hence why he would wait for a decision from us.

sheffielder forgot to say too....I forgot Thomas plays on the left but isn't he right footed?

And I think Wlder is trying to make sure he has competition for places, so see this lad as the alternative to Holmes.
I reckon the smarmy twat Robinson is so dead set against him coming to us he would stubbornly refuse every offer we make but sell to anyone else.

I've already stated why I'm not too fussed over Holmes but i'd love us to sign him just to piss that twat off. :)

Not hijacking it much...but this made me chuckle.

Don't mean to be cruel and fuel the stereotypical digs they get about being bumpkins and out of touch.

But PaSOTI....their forum.
Wondered where that came from and it's "Plymouth Arglyle Supporters on the Internet"

Maybe just me but made me chuckle.

It's been a bit weird about Carey this close season, we're reading scraps about various clubs which could be agents work.
He tends to let his contracts run down, he wouldn't talk about a new contract during last season preferring to wait until the season ends.
He maybe haves a bit of a wobble on heavy pitches but his head never drops.
When he signed for us we all said "Graham who" as you are now.
There's also a lot of chat today he may be re- signing for us, or did they mean resigning!

What about Sonny Bradley? Would you say he's ready for the Championship?

We're after a couple of centre halves.

Hey on your bike, he's under contract but another player whose blossomed under Adams, he nearly signed for Eastleigh last summer before we got him, he's been good for us.

Many of our fans scream for a shot when the player in question is stationary, off balance, on the back foot or surrounded by an impenetrable wall of opposition flesh and muscle. On those occasions said player is reluctant to shoot because he has multiple brain cells, unlike the screaming hordes.

Whilst I agree, I think most would probably also agree that Coutts is particularly shot-shy. Fleck and Duffy are willing to have a go when there’s an appropriate opportunity and I think they have the balance about right but Coutts seems only willing to shoot if he has so much space that he can approach it like a free kick. There was some improvement on that front last season but he could definitely shoot more. He's quite capable when he takes one on.

This guy could turn out to be a bit of a Bob Booker. That wasn't too shabby as I recall. The lower leagues are full of hard working players with a bit of ability. If Wilder feels he can put a bunch together as he did last season and get them believing and expressing themselves within a solid, hard working unit I'm fine with that. It's becoming obvious we aren't going to find money to throw big fees around as has been well discussed on another thread.

We don't know what level of funding Wilder has got but he has said he wants a level playing field with the wage structure, bringing in big hitters would kill that stone dead.
He also said we have to up the level of wages at some point , gradually moving players up the scale as we get stronger is I think what he means.
Wages for success is the way to go and young hungry players are ( technically good )the ones who will achieve this.
In my opinion Wilder has got this right he's
All about value for money and he's certainly got that so far .

This graham Carey link has more of a sample screen feel about it. Maybe telling charlton we are looking elsewhere when we're not

Signed a new contract, so that's an end to this one

WTF is he thinking? I don't think he owes them such loyalty, this is above and beyond.

28 years old and he's spending another year in the lower leagues when he surely had Championship options.

I'd rather he stay at Plymouth than sign for another Championship club though. He's more likely to be attainable in the future for us that way and it would've been irritating to see him end up somewhere like Barnsley and do really well.

From an Argyle supporter...

Apparently he passed a medical at Sheffield United but turned down their offer.

Most likely bullshit...

Little fish in a big pool, or big fish in a little pool, "nah I'll stay were I am thanks,in the little pool"
