Bit of a digression from the well wishing, although I do endorse it, but the mention of BFBS took me back almost 50 years!

I did a year out in Germany in 1973 as part of my German course at Sheffield, (the year the U.K. joined the Common Market) and the town where I spent a fantastic year had a small British troop presence and therefore perfect BFBS reception. I relied on it every Saturday afternoon for football results and I entered them in my Playfair Football Annual so I could update my Tiger football league ladder later. My Nan sent me the Green’ Un every week, it usually arrived on Tuesday.

Anyway, I also listened sometimes to BFBS during the week and after all that time, I’ve just remembered a show with a DJ called Richard Astbury. His slogan was Absolutely Asters said in a cod seductive voice and he specialised in flirting with forces housewives over the phone in a way that almost certainly wouldn’t be allowed these days. He gave a lot of airplay to a song called Don’t Stick Stickers On My Paper Knickers, not sure if it was ever a hit, it was certainly very suggestive.

Not sure what you’ll be doing in Cyprus, but if you’re broadcasting for BFBS, I challenge you to give that disc a spin some time
