no doubt as usual our neighbours will be out celebrating a match from 44 years ago when 2 poor sides clogged away in division 3

but
theres been plenty of really good boxing day wins in our history

one of my all time memories and the first match I really started to enjoy football was this one

It ended in a 2-1 for us in front of a packed house


they were probably the best mufc side of that era

Aged 9years 8 months together with Grandfather aged 61 and his youngest son, mi uncle and my avatar as a lad 1930's. aged 22.
Blades had beaten Hull, Christmas day, 3-1 HT0-0. FE Smith, Hagan & Jones, not Mick but George Henry.
Not an auspicious Div. 2 season finished eighth on 44pts thirteen points behind PNE eventual champions.
 
Bircnhall opened the scoring on 42 minutes only for Herd to equalise right on half time
but as happened quite frequently then Mick Jones notched the winner second half
best headed goal ive ever seen by mick jones at the shoreham end that day nearly broke the back of the net behind which about 10k man utd fans were mixed in with our lot

played 2 days later at old trafford lost 2-0, neary got crushed on the stretford end
