If Wilder is going to knuckle down and fight it out most of us will back him but today was more than frustrating. It isn't disloyal to say that performance was unacceptable, that the team and tactics were garbage. No fans in the country would sit back and say everything's great, shut yer gob, remember how bad it was six years ago or remember that terrible performance two decades ago against x y z. We didn't get to the Prem to be talking about how we'll go for it next season in the Champ. One thing CW turned around at the club was the defeatist outlook and defeatist mentality. He was a winner and hopefully still is.
So, things are dire. Let's recognise that and stop making excuses. CW needs to find his ruthless streak again and forget about the now old days and the old guard. He was ruthless with Duff. Without going into tactics selections too much suffice it to say that the brutal truth is Bash, Enda, Fleck, Norwood, Billy, Lunny aren't good enough for the Prem. Last year was exceptional.
We need to rebuild that much is clear. Of the new signings/loans Ampadu isn't good enough. Ramsdale needs to be benched, Lowe isn't ready. Of the old guard only Egan, McGoldrick and Baldock look like they can hack it at this level. A new manager could see that. CW has to be that new manager, he has to be a new CW and rebuild the team as if he'd just walked into the job yesterday. We've been on a journey. That journey is over. We've got to start a new one that doesn't take us back to where we started. If CW recognises that there's still hope. The ball's in his court.
