Godfrey

Think he's clearly let his personal problems derail his career. Won't be much use to us here this season.

A good manager/coach could teach Sereki to be far more effective at defending than Godfrey is at right back.

His positioning is right for a RCB, in every game he's played, he's always been tucked too far in to properly mark a winger. Would still have to put a tackle in, unlike tonight though.
Lost all hunger for the game. Still living off his England cap years ago. Now done as a professional, should have sloped off to Saudi or the MLS to wind down his career. This is what you get with late in the window desperation signings

The worst moment for me was when he got a high 5 from the manager as he was subbed off. Did they both feel that performance was worthy of some sort of celebratory gesture?

Shocking performance said after his 2nd game for us that hes never a RB should never play there again

Unexplainable that it took 82 minutes for him to be subbed

Appalling excuse for a footballer and the heart of a pea. I'm talking Auston Trusty levels of shite, absolutely no defensive instincts or intent to engage the attackers.

An absolute disgrace, needs dropping from the match day squad

I saw that someone give him a high 5 but didn't see who it was, was that seriously Selles? Christ almighty

Just send him back to Atalanta. Even if we have to keep paying for him, just send him back

He was a fucking gash nil point all night.

Which by a calamitous coincidence is the same as the number of points we have accumulated this season 🤔

I think like some other recent defenders JLT, Bash etc he needs to be in a 3.

He’s a poor CB and FB but I could see him being a decent RCB with cover from 2 other CBs & a RWB.

He was clearly an athlete but something has changed and he no longer trusts himself. The manifestation of that was his performance tonight, which ranks highly in my list of worst ever by a United player.

Attitude wise He gave up. Unforgivable. He’s not a blade and never will be. Not fit to wear the shirt and any decent blades manager bombs him out of the club tonight.
He was half decent on his debut but seems to have got levels worse under Selles coaching

Don't like to pick on any one Blades player but that was the worst individual performance I've seen from a United player in my 40-odd years of following. Granted that Brooks was also appalling and gave no assistance.

A pathetic, cowardly, abomination of a display. Hopefully he never plays for us again. Disgusting.

When he signed I watched a couple of youtube videos and one was focusing on his pace and he seemed to think he was faster than anyone in the PL. He must have lost a lot of it.

His one on one defending is poor, and he looks unconfident when players are running at him. He looks like someone who's been playing against poor opponents where his pace has got him out of trouble. But faced with top class dribblers he's really unsure which way they're gonna go and he ends up giving them too much space. For now the conclusion should probably be that he can't play right back against wingers like that.

I remember Everton fans going on about Ben Godfrey in this match. Everton got pasted 4-1 with Godfrey being their lowest rated player with a 3/10, and that was very generous.

Take a look at 1:16 but especially 2:30.

The whole clip shows even more of what an absolute abomination of a defender he is. This kid is fucking diabolical.

If it was up to me, he’d be on a Ryanair flight back to bergamot, preferably sandwiched between a hen party and a colicky baby.

I can deal with players who are shit. It’s not their fault, it’s our fault for not identifying that they are shit.

Players who give up like he did however don’t deserve the immense privilege they have.

Whoever comes in next wants to be making an example of him.

At the moment he looks like a player whose promised was shattered by a career threatening injury and a really bad case of long COVID.

Will get a fair crack of the whip under Wilder.

I doubt hed be getting a game for his hometown York City right now. Looks like he's completely forgotten how to play.

I'm struggling for objectivity, but surely master of the unseen work, Dean Hammond is up there?

Lee Baxter chucking 2 in before half time.

Horsefield?

It was a very shit performance though.

After he gave up and stopped trying, a fair crack of the whip would be to tell him to fuck off back to Italy.

With how Wilder dealt with Lundstram, I expect he'll play every game

Andy Taylor, Leicester away. Boxing Day. Nice guy, but……

Both are excellent shouts.

I would say though that both Taylor and Hammond - mindbendingly atrocious as they undoubtedly were - were more what I'd call 'consistently shit' as opposed to Godfrey's disgusting, 'infected arse gravy' of a performance on Friday night. It was one of those display's that you'd threaten your Blades-supporting kid's with if they were naughty and you'd tell them they had to watch it again if they didn't behave.

Stopped trying? When did he even start? He was nowhere near Philogene the entire game. The warning signs were there in the first 5 minutes, but he refused to get tight enough and just let Philogene cut inside at will. It was abysmal defending. If he doesn't want to play as a proper right back, fine - fuck off and we'll pick someone who does.
