Pretty sure I read somewhere on Twitter last night that had Ched been credited with the goal it would have meant he had scored in his last 8 Blades appearances.

I think the English record is 11 as set by Vardy the year Leicester won the league but what's the Blades record?

Edit - just checked and he did indeed score 10 goals in the 7 matches immediately preceding the sentencing between 17/03/12 and 14/04/12).

It's an own goal unfortunately for Ched. The keeper saved his shot and the ball was going nowhere near the goal until their defender had a FIFA moment.

12, Jimmy Dunne. Vardy didn't beat his record.

I didn't know about him, a very impressive record indeed. Of course Vardy was Premier League games only and football only started in 1992 after all.

169 goals in 173 matches is great record for Dunne for his time with us. I was however concerned when I read this on his wikipedia page:

"Dunne's goalscoring form with Sheffield United soon attracted the interest of Arsenal. In early 1932 they offered United £10,000 for Dunne but were turned down. However, in September 1933, after United hit financial trouble, they accepted a reduced fee of £8,250."

Game changing investment my arse!!!

We got relegated the same season we sold Dunne. There are parallels between his time at the Lane in the early 30s and Deanos in the early 1990s. On both occasions the team sold its best player and was relegated straight away.

It's nice to know that in an uncertain world some things never change

We have currently scored in 15 consecutive league games stretching back to the 0-0 draw at Bristol Rovers on Valentine's Day.

There was a parallel long before the 1990s. In 1967-8 we didn't just sell one goal scorer, we sold two - Jones and Birchenall. As usual, relegation followed. Although it has to be said that on this occasion we had to try really hard to get relegated. Given our position with several matches to go I don't think any other club in the world could have managed to get relegated.
