We need to rethink the way Howard takes his kicks. I don't think he has once passed it out so far. Smashing it in the general direction of Baxter is useless as we just lose the header and therefore possession. The full backs need to drop and get the ball so we can keep it, something we need to work on.

Got to agree, just the most pointless lump every time we have a Goal Kick, baxter can not do owt with it and its just inviting more pressure on to us.

He can kick it bloody far mind...I'm sure I saw N.I.G.E.L telling him to shoot from one...(i think he said shoot..?)

Clough was furious with one that went straight through to the Preston keeper in the second half.

We have spoke about this at matches and believe that Howard's long punts are a definite ploy so that our midfield can pick up the 2nd ball. Unfortunately it's too long sometimes and I wish he could be a bit more diagonal with it.

We thought the same. Not going for flick on cause there's no one there. Even if they get the header chances are it's coming back to our packed midfield system, in theory!

I mentioned this after the Charlton game. 100% possession turns into 0% with an aimless punt into their goalies' arms. Far better a well-aimed throw or, like Charlton's excellent goalie Ben Hamer, lean sideways and put topspin on the ball to deliver a 'flat' kick.

Talking of Charlton & Ben Hamer, it was Chris Powell's defiance of the owner in playing Hamer instead of Yohann Thuram (a flop from Standard Liege) that cost him his job, not defeat by the Mighty Blades. Link

Also Spurs and Arsenal are after Diego Poyet - one of Charlton's stand-out performers last week.
