Notice that we now have the 2nd best GD (17) of the league behind WEst Brom (20) which coudbe useful if we can maintain it.
The last 3 matches have boosted it a lot with 9-1 balance

Goal difference is a good measure of the best and worst teams in the league.

Only Boro have conceded fewer goals than us.

Our defence is proving to be a noticeable improvement on last season.
They’ve only scored 28 though, which is the lowest from any of the top 19 teams in the league. Even the pigs have scored more, it must be desperate watching that every week.

But we don’t score enough and our defence is shit and we need some pace don’t we?

Increasingly earlier crosses is the answer. Half-way line is the minimum objective.

#noiseandnonsense.

How many times, let’s say this century, has a promotion or relegation place been decided on goal difference? “It’s worth a point” is a major fans’ fallacy. It isn’t.

I might have thought that such a big Blade like yourself might have remembered 2007.

The mighty Wigan stayed up on the same points as the side 3rd bottom, BY ONE GOAL DIFFERENCE.

As a Blade, it's always worth assuming our fate could be decided by goal difference, as well. We never the get luck when it comes down to fine margins, so better to be safe than sorry!

What a silly silly post.

You've made your views on Jags quite clear in the past. You are, as usual, wrong but even if you were right, it does not change the fact we were relegated due to goal difference.

Changing the subject is to be expected when arguing with some of the numpties on here. However for such an intelligent, considered and prescient Blade (in your own mind), to do it is simply a bit silly.

We've conceded the 2nd lowest, and we've scored the second highest?
That's a very good formula to win you football matches.

If that continues -will we finish 2nd in the league ?

You finish with a point fewer than another club and see where that argument gets you.

It gets you into a lower position I think, but I'm sure you know that. Now where do you finish if you have a better goal difference than a team on equal points? I'm sure you know the answer to that too.

If we were to finish on the same number of points as the 2nd placed team would you want us to have a higher or lower goal difference?

We beat Hull city to promotion under Porter field many moons ago.
It Doasnt come to goal difference most of the time but in a tight race like this season it could be worth a point.Wed once beat us to promotion on goal difference.

Higher, of course but It happens so rarely I give it very little thought. Goal difference is not ‘worth a point’.

The issue ranks in importance alongside ‘we’re crap at throw-ins’, ‘early crosses’ (noise and nonsense) and other such inconsequential matters.

It's great to see our goal difference 2nd highest, it looks like it will be close this season and who knows, it may just come down to goal difference.

Addendum:

Let me make it clear, I’m not batting for an unfavourable goal difference, merely pointing out it rarely has a practical effect. A healthy goal difference is a pretty good indicator that you are playing excellent, entertaining and successful football and I’m all for it, but it ain’t ‘worth a point’.

Remember the old goal average fellas? You had to be Einstein to work out who had what in those days. Go on then, someone work out the goal average (from the old rules) of the present top 6 as my old brain has forgotten how to do it.

I take it you're not a fan of 'away goals count double' then either Pinchy ?
