Can we see your figures for the ratings and a breakdown of what sports and genres of TV vs. how much time they deserve? Exactly how much time does women's football deserve? Or can we just trust this came straight from your arse?
 
among these many chapters has anyone pointed out that the BBC can't afford to bid for that much sport after it's bought the nearly new men's football, the master's golf and the boat race (the women's race was excellent this year Cambridge nearly sank).

They get what they're given....in this case a little bit of Women's Football, probably came as a bogof deal with the Premiership highlights.

I believe more women should play sport in general. This country is getting more and more obese and we should be doing all we can to combat this. However what we don't want is poor quality sport offered as the only option on terrestrial television. Which frankly women's football is. "We don't want to watch professional sports players who are worse than ourselves on television, we want heroes and people to aspire to" as my PE teacher put it years ago which for me is exactly what the BBC are not doing. Women's tennis on the other hand is about as good as it gets for women sport there is very little difference between mean and women apart from power. So on my logic this should be given more air time than women's football. Maybe one day women's football will be of a standard to be given prime time viewing but until then lets have high level sport on TV women's or men's.

So on your logic UTC you do believe more women should play sport but you think it is poor quality compared to men's football so should not be shown on TV.

On my logic, regardless of standard the women's England team it is seen as the pinnacle of English football for women. Something that women (50 percent of the population) may well find interesting and something to aspire to and may actual encourage them into sport or to watch football either mens or womens, as well as men who may actually enjoy watching it and support the England football team.

It was an England qualifying international (not a meaningless friendly) and shown live on BBC2. They are full time professionals on the equivalent of the cricket central contract ( a fraction of the money though). They have not screened well meaning amateurs having a knock about in the park, or one of these pro celebrity games (now if ever there was a waste of screen time).

Personally I think that some on here who don't think it should be on TV reveal more about themselves and their attitudes than they would care to.

Just sayin' no offence to anyone.

Women's tennis is shown extensively on BT Sport.

That would make you a little celebretyist wouldn't it?!
Viewing figures for Ladies England v Japan world cup semi was 1.7 million.
Viewing figures for never-really-made-it-celebs v made-it-but-now-past-it football-players was 3.9 million.
Apparently, more than twice as many people want to see pro-celebrity kick-around than women's international football matches.
Where does that leave us? :eek:

This. ^^^

I was at the New York Stadium on Friday night along with 10.5k others. The number of registered women & girls playing football increases dramatically year on year, and will certainly be far in excess of numbers of active golfers or tennis players in the UK. Admittedly I am biased, I am actively involved in women's & girls football and see first hand just how much interest there is & how much it is growing. People can claim that it shouldn't be on TV because they think it is "crap" but really this is just a mask for sexism. Why shouldn't the huge number of girls & women playing the game, together with the increasing number from both genders supporting it, have the chance to see the likes of Fara Williams etc. on TV?
 
This is fairly simple for me personally, I have a niece who plays at junior level and although she isn't a bad player it pains me to watch some of them due to the lack of mobility more than anything else, i must say though that some of them are very good technically.

Now, whilst I won't personally like or want to watch women's football there is nothing to say that it shouldn't be on TV, especially after some of the shite they pose as terrestrial TV these days. After all, this topic is being spoken by a set of fans that has watched some utter dross displays at times over recent seasons from some so called men so who are we to say really! :)
 
Makes you laugh in truth. People come on here denouncing women's football for it's low quality. How many matches have they watched?
To cap it all most of them are avid Blades attending Bramall lane , they come on here deriding other football as crap.

A word in favour of Sheffield FC ladies. As for matches I have attended since 2012, these are Blades, Sheffield FC and Sheffield FC ladies. Out of the lot, the women have without doubt provided not only the solitary few pieces of success, but definitely the only entertainment on a consistent basis.
Three league championships, FAWPL cup winner 2014 in a 6 2 final v Cardiff city at Burton Albion .
Playoff victors 1 0 v Portsmouth May 2015 took them to FAWSL 2.
 
I always remember refereeing ladies games with affection , did one a month or so for 8 years
mind you the language was far worse than I heard in the Meadowhall Sunday leagues
I remember one player claiming shed been kicked in the clitoris , which made me chuckle
Doncaster Belles centre half was Chris Morgan with a pony tail, but butcher than Chris was

Your logic is seriously flawed. You start off with a good point then make a non sequitur as, using my daughters and other people's daughters that I know as examples, they are totally motivated by seeing women's sport on TV (and indeed are amazed when it's on). This includes football and the netball that Sky are now showing. When the Tour De Yorkshire comes near us in a couple of weeks we're going to see the women's race for the same reason.
 
Arguing about the quality level is a non-starter. There's so many factors that go into making women's football of a lower quality, and exposure on TV is one thing we can do to lift the standard of the women's game. And so what if it's not as good, does that make it less worthy? Where did this arbitrary and illogical argument come from anyway?

We need more girls and women to succeed in sport, if we want true gender equality. Women's football is a big part of that. You know what really made me smile last year is how well England did in the WWC. They got knocked out cruelly by an own goal at the last gasp in the semi final, then went on to beat bloody GERMANY to clinch 3rd spot. A triumph by all accounts, as previously they hadn't won a single game in a world cup knockout stage. It was such a welcome re-installment of national pride after our men had failed so badly in the World Cup in 2014 and the Rugby World Cup earlier that summer. Not bad for a bunch of wimmin, eh.
 
The 2011 women's world cup final, where Japan eventually beat the USA, was a terrific game and the women's game is notably less plagued by playacting than the men's game.

Aaahhh, so at its peak, the likes of Paddy McGuinness failing miserably at football attracted only 50% more viewers than a World Cup semi final.

'No testes, no TVs' :)
