Just had a look on Twitter, and Mike Stephenson who seems to know what is going off in the football world and around the Lane is suggesting that George Moncur could be available for £250k but Charlton are also interested.

I think we need to show some intent and go out there and show we mean business by beating Charlton to his signature, and I also think that he would be the ideal player for what we need going forward

If we allow Charlton to beat us to Moncur then it clearly shows how we are doing our business this close season
 



I'd be more concerned about someone beating us to Graham Carey.

Agree though we should be looking to sign Moncur, and in the process prevent Charlton from signing a potentially important player.

Just don't know what our budget will be though.
 
So nobody mentioned has moved yet we are behind our rivals. Weren't the same people saying that Duffy was looking around yesterday.

Moncur isn't really a good example, Magic Mike says £250k but other sources say Colchester want closer to £500k. Also unless the wages we offer are a fair bit higher than Charlton, Swindon or MK Dons, then I think he will choose to stay in the south.
 
Do Charlton have a manager as yet? Seems we're already one up on them in that regard, especially given that we've got the man they wanted.

I think Moncur is a decent player, but there will need to be more considerations other than beating rivals to the player. If he wants to stay down South for example, what can we do?
 
Can see Moncur attracting a fair bit of lower-end Championship interest. Millwall, if they go up, say. And the likes of Fulham, Huddersfield, Blackburn, etc.
 
If not Moncur,what about Jack Payne at Southend..looked decent against us anyway.

How do you know Wilder is interested in him. I will be more worried if players Wilder wants go to other clubs not some made up rumour about a player dragged off twitter !

We have been getting left behind for the last five years, not sure if that will change anytime soon.

In the January transfer window we sat back and watched everyone else do business.

Does he suggest we are actually interested in Moncur?

I expect this to be the case, as per most preseasons. The only difference being CW may be a little bit more shrewd in the dealings of lower leagues. He should be in for gems like Nelson at Plymouth. Inexpensive, athlete, centre half, leader = ideal signing.

I think CW will need to clear the squad to create a budget to work with, but it looks like he's more than willing to do just that.

Yes, I'd rather have him than Moncur, or Erhun Oztumer from Peterborough. Don't think we have a chance with Payne though.

Unfortunately we have already fallen big style behind them , let's hope it doesn't become £100m behind them at the end of this month.

Harry does a hand ball in the penalty area in the 89th minute and secures a move back to Sheffield. Couldn't happen could it .

We didn't get left behind last season tho.

It was more a case of all the fkin useless targets that Adkins brought in no fkr wanted. :D

Moncur is a cockney and IF Charlton come calling for him, I'm pretty sure he will choose them over us........why wouldn't he, on paper we are about the same in terms of "bigness" but he won't have to up sticks for them and would for us. No big deal if he goes there...........CW will have others in mind.
