Getting Caught in possession.

McBurnie 15 times in 480 minutes ( 1 per 32 mins)
Robinson 13 times in 546 mins (1 per 37 mins)
Freeman 11 255 ( 1 per 23 mins)

Most in P.L. Zaha 53, Buendai 40, McGinn 31.

McBurnie is 38th in the table. 1080 is the maximum playing time in 12 games.

Playing upfield is harder in this context but there may be a few clues why certain players are not starting games.

Losing the ball in the P.L. can be punished. On the other hand there's the risk/reward which is the manager's conundrum.

I've asterisked my 4 outstanding performers and there are some other remarkable performers too.

Interesting but quite meaningless in real terms. I mean, you would expect your striker, who's taking defenders on up at the top of the pitch, to lose the ball quite a lot. On the other hand if Egan were to lose the ball in possession we'd be fooked!

It's what Wilder thinks that matters.

e.g. The Moose loses possession as often as McBurnie and Robinson but he has produced 3 goals and 3 assists.

Freeman works hard to make things happen but loses possession a lot according to the stats.

Lundstram's rewards for his risks are outstanding.

Stevens and Baldock are careful in possession and their risk/reward is probably right where the manager wants it, maybe not always the case in the past perhaps.

Fleck spot on.

McGoldrick outstanding, what a season he is having. You can only miss big chances if you are there to miss them ( 7 up near the most in the P.L.).

Sharp loses possession and I'm not sure his risk taking is that ambitious to be honest.

Norwood's stat is tremendous. Can it be true? Remember this stat is 'caught in possession,, not conceding possession with a wayward pass. Such a quick brain and quick feet.
 
The only one I can remember of real note is when bash lost it and Vardy scored

I was just about to post something similar. Players who are mostly operating in the opposing half of the pitch (strikers) are going to be more likely to give up possession than those who are surrounded by more of their team mates in their own half (defenders). So, it doesn't tell us anything really. It's just another load of stats that are generated with the sole purpose of creating discussion but with no scientific basis whatsoever. Obviously it works!

I accept your point mate but we could find stats to cover just about everything and over analyse. For example, they could produce stats that show the amount of time a player spends on the pitch without touching the ball. Therefore, they would fair pretty well on your stats ..... but wouldn't be making much of a contribution either! I think Wilder and Knill are smart enough to use stats effectively and where appropriate, but also trust their eyes and instincts too.

Exactly, you expect your strikers to lose the ball and get closed down.
