"Looking back, nor forward" Living in the past" etc. I wish people wouldn't trundle out these tired old cliches as the reason that we can's appoint the most successful lower-league manager of recent times.
Sometimes, a manager / player returning to his former club works out. Sometimes it doesn't. I doubt many Bournemouth fans think they were "looking back, not forward" when re-appointing Eddy Howe. The situation needs to be looked at objectively.
The fact is, that Warnock grates on a lot of people (including McCabe). But if it were purely and simply the interests of the club we're talking about, and not massaging people's egos, the get him back in and give him a free rein. He has the best contacts, has an excellent eye for a bargain, usually get his tactics spot on. And, despite whatever other people like to claim, he's a Blades fan and stood on the kop as a young man.
No one is better-qualified to get us out of this league.
