I didn't rate Long but I also didn't agree with a lot of the abuse he got.

He did seem to lose some pace and ability. His main attribute was his goalscoring though and when that dried up, there was very little left. I think he was a panic buy who we got a bit of value out of but not 600k worth - that was a big fee for us.

Good luck to Long, a good piece of business, fee and sell on clause. There should be a Hammond surcharge on top of any fee for the rumoured £140k CW had to pay to buy him off. Adkins should pay for that out of his own pocket.

I'm surprised Hull have taken him i'd have thought League one was his level. When he was here it was a toss up who was worse him or Howard, Long could have been excused a few errors as he was young but got little sympathy from a fair portion of unitedites. At 24 yr old he can't afford those errors any more so best for him to move on he would have been crucified here. I still think Hull might be too big a club for him though if the fans give him a bit of stick he could well go to pieces like he did here. Good luck to him he might need it.

Personally I think he had the physical tools to be a very good Championship GK, just whether he has the emotional intelligence to handle the pressure.

Certainly 20k+ Blades waiting on his every touch expecting him to drop a clanger was never going to work.

Only hope the Hull branch of the Blade Redemption Club works as well for him as it did for Maguire...
