Only party a loan move benefits is Wimbledon.his days here are over and for the good of his career he needs to be elsewhere unless he has a year left and the loan is for the season with a view to a permanent deal.

Sorry Pinchy. I totally forgot that it is a sin on this site to have a differing opinion to the one that that you hold, how silly of me. Oh and by the way. 23 yrs of age in goalkeeping terms is very young. IMHO.

You're right that it is young, but in my experience you usually have some idea of where things are heading at that age even. In George's case, IMHO it's backwards. Having said that, sometimes in life you have to take a step back to take two steps forwards. Perhaps George will have a good spell at AFC and build his confidence, something which is a major issue with Goalkeepers. If your confidence is shot you've blown it.

Deffo need a new keeper too then.

Hopefully smith signs on.

Wonder if etheridge regrets going to Cardiff after they also signed camp?

This again. Every goalkeeper ever is described as 'a good shot stopper.' That's literally the fundamental of what a goalkeeper is. Goalkeepers become goalkeepers because they're good at stopping shots.

If a goalkeeper isn't a good shot stopper then why the fuck is he a goalkeeper? Imagine being able to command your area and claim every ball into the box but you're a bit shit at stopping fucking shots.

For a keeper, stopping shots is the base where you work from, without that you have nothing. The other aspects that Cerberus Blade mentions are obviously important, being good at those are what makes a decent keeper a great keeper.

Reckon it's make or break for long at Wimbledon, hopefully he'll push on and fulfil his potential. However I think it's more likely, it'll conform to wilder he isn't good enough and will be sold next summer

Goalkeeper George Long will spend the 2017/18 campaign away from Bramall Lane, as he looks to play regular first-team football.

The 23-year-old, who made four appearances last season prior to Simon Moore's arrival, has joined Sky Bet League One side AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan deal.

Speaking upon Long's departure, boss Chris Wilder remarked: "George's attitude last season was first-class, but we understand his need to play first-team football.

"He goes to an excellent club with an excellent manager, hopefully this loan will prove to be beneficial to all parties and George returns an even better goalkeeper."

Sheffield born and bred, George has made a total of 123 Blades appearances after progressing through the Academy.

May I be the first to wish the lad well.
IF he comes back it will be because we want him.

Good luck to him.

Has the ability to be a top keeper but lacks the mentality. He's still relatively young and this can change.

Surprised it's a loan and not a permanent move but obviously Wilder still sees potential in him.

Good luck to the lad, hopefully he'll come back a better player who can make a serious challenge to the No. 1 jersey in the future.

Hopefully he'll have a blinder and we can sell him in the JTW to Everton for peanuts.

Good luck to the lad.

Getting your angles right is the basis you work from.
I've said it many times he doesn't get his positioning correct often enough , at his age it's something he should be doing as second nature now.

Sorry George, but good luck for the future.

Not to drag up the past again but surely this casts a bit more light on the odd decision to sell ramsdale - highlights the folly in letting youth players go cheap.

Especially now we need a replacement keeper.

Say we sold ramsdale for a million. We now have to go out and replace him.

Say we want smith.

- Signing on fee - c50k
- wages of a former number one - c5k p/w on a three year contract. C £780k

Cost £830k.

Say ramsdale as a youth player was on c£1k per weeks £150k for the same 3 years

Really once you take into account the wages etc. The net profit from selling him is only £320k.

Does that represent value for money?

Contact runs out June 2018 so unless recalled/returned early v. likely to be an end to his time with us.

Good luck to the lad but unfortunately never going to make it at the lane after his last few mistakes.

Out of all the players who would stop for photos after games with the fans, one fan being my son, I can honestly say no matter what happened in the games for us he held his head high and still had the photos took with the fans and stopped on every occasion to chat to them. Quite a lot of players didn't I may add.

Only speaking from personal experience and from my son's thoughts on him but he really is a top bloke who deserves everything he gets in life, which signifies to me will be more than what people think on here.

He might not have been good enough for us at times but you don't go on a run we had under Clough, without conceding hardly any goals, being a shit GK. He will come back from this loan a much better GK, with some much needed confidence and character. All GKs' are crackers, he just doesn't seem crackers enough right now but it's nothing the Dons can't sort out. :)

Things can change very quickly. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/21791801

On the other hand Gareth Bale was on the verge of being booted out at Spurs after a dodgy season when he was of a similar age to Long.

Long has the talent to make it no question, and is so young for a goalkeeper, this move could see him resurrect his career so wish him all the best, wouldn't rule him out as our future first choice again

Wish the lad the very best. Great attitude shame it never worked here. His position is all about confidence and unfortunately when playing in front of us lot he no longer has any.

The kid is not Dean Hammond though, the stick he's taken is uncalled for, Wimbledon announced it via twitter and there are blades on that thread slating him still, just leave him be for fucksake let him get on with his career.

He had quite a good run of games in Wilson's second season keeping quite a few clean sheets in the process which never seems to get mentioned on here. once he comes back from this loan he will be a better keeper

That really isn't difficult given he is lacking in every fundamental of the trade...

What on earth do you mean "no question"? He is poor in all the essentials of goalkeeping. If you won't rule him out, I'll take on the task. George, you're nowhere near good enough. You're ruled out.

Oh and the 'young' bollocks again. Dear, oh dear, you Bladey Boyband Blades never stop flogging a dead horse, do you?
