Just watched the highlights again from Tuesday night and as i thought on the night, Long was at fault for at least 2, maybe 3 of the goals on Tuesday, maybe not the direct fault, but he defo should have saved them.. How he didn't get a hand to the 2nd and 4th goal they scored i'll never know.

New keeper for a late Christmas present please.

I'm a critic of both our keepers but Long was only at fault for the last goal (when he dived with all the commitment of my dead gran - not my dead nannan, she's have saved that).

From behind the goal he looked very much at fault for the second, the shot was fairly central and he was well out of position.

But that's because he'd just dived for a shot going for the opposite corner which was blocked, before recovering & diving the other way. I honestly don't think George can be held at fault for any of the four goals.

That's not to say that he should be beyond criticism for Bladey Blade reasons, just that he was beaten fair & square for each of the four goals in this instance IMO.

Sorry to say this, but I've been saying for a long time (no pun intended) that Howard shouldn't be our first choice. Given the choice of a poor Howard and a poor Long I'd take Long all day, errr.. Long (no pun intended, again). Yes, he's made mistakes, but at least there's a chance he'll get his shit together and improve.

We can cross (*) our fingers that Long is lacking first team experience and confidence. Howard just simply isn't good enough (and maybe that applies to Long too, we just can't be 100% certain yet).

(*) - I really should pick my words better! I'd point out no pun was intended, in hope of saving this post (**)
(**) - FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!

Long may well improve, unfortunately, right now we need someone better and do not have the luxury of playing a goal keeper who has shown little improvement in the games he has played. Surely, somewhere there must be a keeper with experience, eager to sign on for may be one season,

Hes let a few soft ones in I will admit ,but look at the 4 in front of him that changes every week ,however I think Howard is absolutely streets ahead of Long and would be good enough for this season. I don't think Long will ever be good enough.

Blameless for all 4, guessing you didn`t watch the highlights with an open mind,
The 2nd, which on the night looked like he was out of position was unlucky, he was moving to his left fron the original shot, and was stranded when Black put it in the opposite corner.
No chance with any of the others.

I don't think Howard nor Long have been helped by the defence being crap since Maguire left - but frankly neither keeper is good enough to get us up. We need all 11 to be right and we're not here for the development of poor George Long.

That said, I would keep him but loan him out on a couple of season long loans and then make a judgment call.

Ive just watched all 4 goals again and him being at fault for 3 is plainly ridiculous, no critisism of the defence interestingly with both centre halfs being replaced at half time Collins dropping to the subs bench.

Interestingly Long has been voted MOTM by fans in 3 of this seasons starts so clearly some of the more vociferous views are not shared by the majority of fans.

Adkins sees the players day in day out and clearly he prefers Long to Howard. I am sure if he thinks a keeper is a priority he will get one in.

I don't get this blame Long culture amongst Unitedites the usual suspects on here are at it again yet not a word is said about a defence letting shots rain in on our goal, even when he kept all but one out at Walsall he was still criticised for not holding on to the shots ................... unbelievable

Man of the match with a cracking score of 4.2 for the Colchester game!

You and me too MetalBlade. Critisism for the manner of a save or triple save from which they failed to score? It's the equivalent of critisising a striker for scoring but not exactly as you would have preferred? o_O

Yes he's made mistakes and if he stays in the net he will make more but that's the nature of being a keeper. I am sure if Adkins considers a new keeper a priority he will go out and get one.

Yes admittedly a poor score. Do you think it was down to him not playing and being on the bench for that game?

Maybe he shuffled too much or didn't sit up straight. Keepers make mistakes, even when on the bench!o_O

Let's be right there is not a lot to pick between them apart from Long being a better shot stopper and better with his distribution and younger so he might improve ............................. errrr when you look at it like that Howard hasn't much going for him as he ? We could certainly use a better keeper at some point soon.

Must admit that when I left the ground the other night, he was the last man I was looking to blame.

George Long has not been at fault for any single goal since his return to the team. Totally ridiculous to put any blame on him while not even mentioning the 10 useless, spineless tossers in front of him. Unbelievable Jeff.

Long is an absolutely diabolical goalkeeper and has been for years. When simmonsen went through a bad patch and the fans wanted to kill him, he got dropped for long who proceeded to immediately cost us points by being useless in the 4-4 draw with Exeter under Wilson.

He starts v Gillingham this season and has a nightmare to be immediately dropped. He comes back and continues to make mistakes such as his stupid daft weakling punch the other day against Southend I think it was.

The fact Adkins keeps picking him tells me we're truly fucked.

Long hasn't improved in 3 years

Long looked ok against Walsall but he really seams to be very hit and miss although I do wonder if any keeper would look good with the defence we have at the moment.

Oops, I meant the Shrewsbury game

The keeper for Port Vale (when we lost there) was very good in my opinion.

Howard with our back four is shit.
Long with anyone's back four would be shit.
