George Hirst

I'd imagine a kid of his age wouldn't be looking to move far when he leaves (which is pretty much inevitable now), and he must be envious of the attention, reputation and playing time that Brooks is getting - when we're still pushing on in the second half of the season, surely we'll be an attractive prospect to him? He got a lot of abuse from piggies for liking the nutmeg photo so if he really wants to rub some salt in AND do the world of good for his career, he can definitely do worse than coming here.
I`d love to know his dad`s opinions on his future, assuming that he has some sway with the young un.

I would be keen if it were possible but I really can't see it happening for lots of reasons.

In addition to the Massive's expected reluctance to let him go before his contract expires, his cost (even with only 6 months left on his contract) considering they'll receive a decent amount of compensation at tribunal and his expected salary (wasn't he rumoured to be seeking £10k/week last season?) would make it an expensive risk for someone that has only played 1 senior game.

I think Everton U23s is a far more likely destination for him.

If he’s only played 1 senior game the compo they’ll get for him will be minimal.

Doubtful as i dont think his dad would ever allow him to sign for us.

The problem is he turned down 10k a week at the pigs and that is why he's not playing in any of their teams at present or being sent on loan. If he wants to reflect on his wages to get some game time then I think a deal can be done, because his daddy no longer loves Sheffield Wednesday as much as people think he does. Also add that Senior Hirst was also binned as youth team coach and other issues.

I personally would love it if he's good enough. Must admit I have not seen him play.

His dad was creeping around Wilder at Hallam FC last Saturday.

I've only see George play once for their under 18s, so can't really comment too much, but he evidently has talent. It'd be good if we could pinch him, if only at the right price. 10k a week is ridiculous and I hope it is just a figure that's been picked to force a move away.

Everything is relative. When you give three first team forwards £50k a week each and a reserve £30k a week it's no surprise that the huge prospect wants £10k. Wednesday have made a rod for their own backs (and it's hilarious).

Got to agree with that, a mis-firing team on mega bucks, no wonder the youngsters want a slice.

I have not seen the lad play, so can't comment, but f he is as good as people are saying, then maybe a deal can be worked out.

From what I heard the £10k a week offer from Wednesday just is not true A Wednesday fan friend of mine said he turned down £1k a week at Hillsborough because he wouldn't get first team football but the club were refusing to loan him out until he signed so it ended up being a stalemate. The £10k a week is what one of the clubs sniffing around him were meant to be offering not Wednesday. Still can't see it happening though.

Non starter for us. Isn’t the fall out about Hirst wanting his son to go to Leicester but Wednesday refusing?

McCabe said Bournemouth quadrupled Ramsdale’s wages and paid £800k. It could be Hirst is worth more as a potential striker.

If he sees out his contract at Wednesday, we cannot compete with the wages he’ll be offered elsewhere.

If he’s only played 1 senior game the compo they’ll get for him will be minimal.

That would certainly impact the amount but conversely his record in England youth teams will also be factored in.

I doubt he'd be a cheap option all things considered.

Still, not been player of the tournament yet, but there's time, maybe he'll make a first team appearance soon too??

heh that would be awesome. i once met David Hirst . he nearly knocked me off my bike. nice bloke (ouch)

I doubt he turned it down for financial reasons, I’d say it was down to a lack of opportunities to progress into the first team so he wants out.

Wouldn’t happen imo as mentioned his Dad would advise him against it..

I actually think his Dad would see it as a good move but he seems to be a “professional ex Owl” surely his son moving to us would jeopardise that.

£15k PW Contract at Everton is my shout

Obviously I cant see it happening....

But he could do a lot worse then come here for his career. He wouldn't have to move house or anything, would be playing with a pal in Brooks and under a manager who'd do his best to develop him.

And for his development he'd stand a decent chance of getting a first team berth in the next 18 months or so. Our strike force is not getting any younger (Donaldson, Sharp, Clarke etc) so there'd be a clear first team pathway.

Plus it would be hilarious to see Wednesday's reaction.

Hirst at our club? really bad idea for me.

We don't need the hassle it would bring.

Why would having the son of an ex Wednesday player playing for us be any more or less problematic than having ex Wednesday players playing for us? Lavery, Quinn, Geary, Bromby, Bradshaw, Cresswell, Rostron have all done decent to excellent jobs for us.

Let's leave the small minded pettiness to Wednesday. Anyone who sees the light and joins us from them gets a welcome from me. If their best youth prospect jumped ship to play for us it would speak volumes about the current state of play in the city.

Agree entirely, if the kids got the talent and right attitude I couldn’t care less if he’s ex Wednesday. Still remember how pleasurable it was to see their ire when Alan Quinn scored against them. Wouldn’t object to seeing more of that :)

I'm buying into this as sarcastic humour (given the Evans saga)!

Nope, don't do sarcasm.

We're doing alright as we are - our Scout (Mitchell) has a very good pedigree. W'day have turned down a £2m bid anyway from Everton, so what sort of value do they place on him?. The kid wouldn't be able to live in Sheffield with all the vitriol from the S6 side and probably from our side if he turned out to be a flop with all the pressure. Just take a look at Jordan Rhodes.

It simply isn't worth anyone's hassle.

But agreed, Evans caused us all sorts of issues and still is.
