Aye, bloody Tory government with their bloody PC gone mad nonsense.
Commie bazzers.
I'm fairly certain they are only doing this to try and appeal to female voters. I'm talking about the feminists who use it to push their agenda.

You mean like this useless article who struggles by on a mere £150k a year?

Would.

You have to be a Tory appealing to women voters or a feminist to think equal pay and opportunity for women is a good thing?
Might be some kind of sinister agenda to you but to most people it's just reasonable common sense.

It's illegal to pay women / men more for doing the same job and it has been since 1970.

I think it's safe to say these figures aren't anything to do with that comparison.

And it's not illegal to pay women/men more for doing a different job to the other.

So what's all the fuss about?

It might be common sense in many industries but to legally enforce the production of gender pay stats in an athletic entertainment environment where trillions of customers have never ever seen a female play alongside a male in its 160 year plus existence; strikes me as being an utterly pointless.load of chuffing bollocks.

Tory idiots.

Maybe when they bring in the Rooney rule we should bring in a margeret rule so we have to interview women as well.

I don't know if I have the strength or the inclination to go through the gender pay gap debate on a football forum.

It's illegal to pay men and women differently for the same work, but anyone who's been in employment knows that almost no two people do the "same work". Different roles, different responsibilities, different hours at different times, different job titles, all make it really easy to obscure things to such a degree that exactly what's going on is almost impossible to analyse at a macro level beyond generalities. What we do know though, is that women are earning less than men and occupying less of the senior roles.

Now, you can spin that in any Peterson, right wing economics, styling of "it's all voluntary choices" that you like, but you're still facing a reality in which over all women earn, on average, less than men. At which point we can either accept that there are lingering cultural norms that lead to that, or go down the avenue of the weird and wonderful Peterson types with their "big five" personality traits and Jungian inferences about the innate psychology of the genders. I don't think this is a great venue for my anti-Peterson rants either.

There is no such thing as a gender pay gap. It is illegal to pay men and women different wages for the same role. It has been for years.

Some employers have a pay bracket of say £25k to £35k for a role. That means that somebody could take £10k less than another for doing the same job.

They tend to get around this by having it based on KPI's and experience. Doubt that they pay the woman less just because she's a woman. To be honest, having tits and ass in this day and age seems to help climb the ladder quicker.

There's a link on the OS to a PDF that shows these figures in more detail, including taking out the playing staff

This is true. We all know a mans weakness is a woman. The better looking the woman, the more power she holds.

It’s also why there are no ugly women in prominent roles. It’s almost an exact science.

Sexy woman - top job.
Ugly woman - benefits or shit job.

That logic doesn’t work for blokes.

The way the gender pay have to be calculated is complete bollocks and designed to show a gap that doesn't exist in reality. For example if you had a company where everyone was paid exactly the same, then two women decided to do a job share the the reported figures would show a pay gap because there are now two women earning less than all the men.

Let’s face it, in sport it’s men who have it rough, by having to carry the notion that the femaill version is any good at all.

Take tennis - the top women’s tennis player would get trounced by the 100th best bloke in the world. What's more, if the competitions weren’t joint, women’s tennis wouldn’t even be televised, just like every other femail sport on the planet. Is there one that stands alone and carries any interest?

Yet for playing just over half as many sets, they get the same pay.

It’s high time they consisted the pay gap for males that were born “not very good at anything” too.

:)

My point wasn't about the gender pay gap in individual sports as they aren't being employed by the same employers.
It was about SUFC a wholly male playing football team until a couple of years ago being made to produce meaningless statistics.
Are our women footballers even professional?

I’m assuming the playing staff aren’t in the calculations – there is no way Spurs and Liverpool could post a 3% and 0.1% pay gap respectively had they been. 38% seems eye-raisingly poor when you compare it against other clubs, including those in our division.

United could reduce the pay gap if they employed more female stewards. Lets face it, the male variety are pretty ineffective at their job as has been evident in their control of the antics of some of the away fans. I can think of a few of the 20 stone tattooed beasties who are disciples of the Hackenthorpe diet who would fit the bill perfectly. I wouldn't fucking argue with them and they would definitely be worth a premium over the male stewards pay.

Brave or what?

I believe the stewards are paid by another company.
