No I don't want him to spend his budget, I want him to fanny about penny pinching just for him to go to Celtic.

Why are Celtic apparently fannying around with a pre-contract agreement? Surely that's penny pinching rather than blowing us out of the water with an offer?

You say budget like brayford, Doyle and bradshaw are all possibilities, I'd be happy with ONE good signing this JTW.

No, I say budget, like the man in charge of football operations has one and knows what it extends to. What if getting GMS for cheaper than the apparent valuation in the press makes the budget stretch further to more than the one good signing you would be happy with?

You say he'll bid as little as he thinks he can get away with, get away with what? The fans not getting on his back for inactivity? It's not his money, ok don't go in at the full asking price but don't piss the other team with a derisory offerer that's going to make them think "sod them tight Yorkshire gits, aye"

Get away with paying and securing a transfer. Surely the first rule in any negotiation from a buyers perspective is to start low?

What makes you think we've pissed them off, or they consider our first offer derisory?

How much do you think he's worth?

Maybe, but I can only call what I saw.

Sat down last night thinking 'let's look at our next hero', finished up thinking 'was he playing?'.
He got a tidy goal last night, took a great corner kick for the winner, what more do you want Grumps? Don't forget what league we're in mate.

The hype suggested I'd be seeing Borbokis, reality was more like Brandy.

Unless Dundee are really playing hardball, whoever negotiates the transfers must get an inkling how much under 250k they are willing to accept- to offer THAT figure their manager and/or agent must have said "aye, owt we can get is a bonus because he leaves on a free in the summer"
It's not just a head to head auction with Celtic, we offer 1p more and he ain't automatically coming to us. Celtic is a team lads like him will wait a few months for.
I don't mean to come across desperate or argumentative I just want to get this one signed sealed delivered

I'm not entirely sure how that relates to us doing wrong in your eyes so far, I'm not with you?

Celtic are doing the right thing by banking on him waiting for them, but we are wrong, because having an idea of his worth to us and them, we've actually made an offer to the club?

I'm not sure what's confusing you, we've come in at 135k below their valuation, a team that supposedly has money to spend.
What would you say the general feeling is amongst blades?
- good on him, we won't be held to ransom?
-or here we go again?

I was under the impression that only clubs from another country could sign a player on a pre-contract agreement six months in advance.
i am of the same opinion zlatan it has to be a different country to agree a pree contract or have we got it wrong?

Well lmao! :D

We didn't bid £80k, we actually bid less!

Confirmed on Jimbob's facebook

Commented further by saying "let's trust that management know what they are doing"

Unbe-f'kin-lievable - even by our joke of a Board & management's standards.

No investment. No ambition. No idea.

Premiership support. League 2 Board.

Pardon?

I'm not sure what's confusing you, we've come in at 135k below their valuation, a team that supposedly has money to spend.

Except for we don't know that do we? What actually is their valuation (from a credible source)?

You appear to be annoyed that we've not automatically jumped in with more to begin with? But think that Celtic will get him, by not actually making a bid?

Things we know:

We've made an opening bid, below £80k (Sheffield United Chairman).
He's out of contract in the summer.
He fancies playing in England.

Selection of things we've seen in the papers:

We've had an initial offer of just under £150k rejected (Jan 8th - Daily Mail)
Dundee United seek at least £2million (Jan 8th - The Scotsman)
We've made an opening bid of £100k (Jan 9th - Daily Record)
£100k offer rejected from Sheffield United (Jan 9th - Sheffield Star)
We're going to offer around £200k (Jan 9th - Daily Record)
We've bid £100k which was turned down, we're going back in with £200k (Jan 10th - Evening Telegraph)
We'll have to double our valuation (Jan 11th - Sheffield Star)
We've made an opening bid of £120k (Jan 13th - Daily Record)
Mackay-Steven set to be sold for around £100k (Jan 13th - Huddersfield Examiner)
We've had a third offer of £80k rejected (Jan 13th - BBC Sport)
We've had a second offer of £80k rejected (Jan 13th - STV)

So the range according to the papers is between £80k and £2million, who also cant decide how much we've offered or how many times we have. Given our previous forays into the Scottish market, where do you think he sits?

Sky sources say that Dundee United want 250k for GMS,and 'tbh' they're not often that far off so i think if we bid that we get him, simple as that blades, bid what they want and you get your man.

With Dundee U competing in the same league I would imagine they would prefer that he goes to the Blades if the offer is the same.

Dundee United may we'll have deliberately leaked the 250k price tag in order to drive up the bids. If that's the case, the likelihood is that in reality they will accept less, especially if the player wants to move.

When I've sold a car and I've not been in a rush to sell it, I put the asking price at a level I knew would be more than most people would be willing to offer. The reason I did this was because I know that most buyers will come in lower than whatever I ask for in the first instance.

When I've been buying a car, sometimes I've had more than enough to meet the asking price straight away. Guess what though; I offered below the asking price and negotiated with the seller. Eventually I paid more than my initial offer, but less than the asking price.

The few hundred quid I 'saved' was spent on overpriced watery lager in some of Swindon's finest watering holes.

Hopefully Nigel spends what he 'saves' a little more wisely.

Celtic in for him now.

Bollocks. The word on the Dundee United forum is that he's already signed a pre-contract deal with Celtic. Unless that rumour came from the Dundee equivalent of jlx94x4 it looks like we might be out of the running.

RedandWhite Like i said in a previous comment it is not proof atall.. But certain people on here take other shite they read in the daily rags as facts so why not take that as fact?.

Lots of negativity on here at times. I truly reckon we will sign this lad, O'grady and a 3rd person. (I hope)

I'll kiss you if true X

I know we have offered low but lets trust Mal Brannigan he knows what he's doing. I doubt Clough traveled up to Scotland just to watch GMS, with how football works now I would guess he probably met the player and his agent before or after the game. Wouldn't he just send a scout if he just wanted to watch the player?

Personal terms might have already been agreed and its just a case of both clubs getting the best deal. If Celtic want to sign GMS at the end of his contracts surely Dundee United will be more inclined to do business with United that are offering them a fee for his services.

Yes but that is out of Dundee Utd's hands. He is free to discuss terms with any club as he has less than 6months left on his contract
