Apologies if posted elsewhere, but there's an article in the Sun today about Southgate and it says that after a round of interviews Gareth Southgate lost out to David Weir to become Blades manager back in 2013?

That's the first I've heard. I always thought it was Robert Page they were considering.

Gareth Southgate is the manager equivalent of when you wake up in the middle of the night needing a piss but you try and get back to sleep but you can't because you need a piss.

I remember Southgate being favourite for the job for a week or so and next to nobody wanting him. I'm pretty sure he turned us down rather than the other way round though

In hindsight it was probably the best move he could ever have made

It's only the fact that Weir was so woefully incompetent which makes Southgate seem a better option.

We were open to giving Weir a chance when he arrived. Would Southgate have been given a warm reception? Hmm...

I seem to recall he knocked us back because the transfer budget consisted of 24 chocolate Brazil Nuts and a bag of Tangerines. That was the season of 'transition' remember.
