Its just paper talk,so no need to get bunched knickers. McCabes beef with the council is that they granted planning permission in a couple of weeks so the Hillsborough bid could go ahead and that this was unfair and unreasonable. He's right and if some council officials have waved this through instead of giving it full scrutiny then he is right to ask hard questions. I mean it took three goes to get our extension to Disorderly Manors approved...

Cheating goes on all the time in football in various guises. Granted, not often to this extent. I just think that a lot of people find it all too easy to blame the West Ham thing for our own failings I.E. not managing to scrape a draw against a poor Wigan side at home, winning just three away games in a season, scoring 8 goals away from home in a whole season etc.

Yes, West Ham shouldn't have cheated, but as a club we seem to focus a lot of our energy on the things we can do nothing about but not address the things that we can actually change.

We should not have needed to get any points at all from that game against Wigan as West Ham should already have been relegated. The fact that they had the services of a world class player, when they should not have done, put them at an unfair advantage. They gained points they would not otherwise have got and I feel the only fair outcome would have been to deduct all points that they gained in any match in which he (or Mascherano) played.

Noone argues that Ben Johnson should have been allowed to retain his 1988 Olympic 100 metres gold medal. And what did he do? He broke the rules by using a performance enhancing substance that he was not allowed to use. In many ways, West Ham did the same thing. They boosted the performance of their side by using the services of a player they were not allowed to use.

Yes we won only 3 away games all season. But in that same season Middlesborough, Fulham, Watford and Charlton won fewer away games, and Portsmouth won the same number as us. Last season WBA, Middlesborough, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Stoke and Manchester City all won fewer than 3 away games.

I won't even go into all the bad decisions that were made against us throughout the season (including the foul on Jagielka immediately before he gave the penalty away against Wigan), which contrary to popular belief did not even themselves out over the course of the season. But the way the premier league dealt with the West Ham saga was the final straw.

I don't want any kind of appeal, legal action etc over the world cup bid, but think we were absolutely right pursue our grievance with the West Ham saga.

Barely a peep on various message boards when the original verdict came in because we were that far ahead of them we never (and I include myself in this) thought it would have much to do with us.

There might not have been mass outrage, but there were plenty of peeps from visionaries such as myself. I see no problem in the Blades seeking to get some clarity on how decisions were arrived at.

Personally quite happy that BDTBL wasn't selected, but in Jon Bon will swing by in his 4x4 and pick me up, I'll happily head off into battle with him.

Couldn't get in it this morning, locks and doors frozen solid lol. Still, if you can make it as far as Malin Bridge I'd be happy to get the tram up to meet you. :D

I remember there being a fair degree of outcry about it.

I imagine a lot of this guff is about firing a warning shot to the council about funding.
The council's already said it won't be funding Hillsborough and Wednesday will have to fund it all.
If they can't do that, I can see an almighty political storm brewing if the council then attempts to go back on its word.

I really hope that's correct, cos I'm fucked if any of my council tax money will be going towards decorating the sty, that would be taking the piss.

Think there's been something about it in the YP or Star as regards the stadium being funded by Wednesday.
The club had to sign a guarantee on funding.
When you look at it in the cold light of day, United have lost on the surrounds, not the stadium.
That much looks as if it should have been obvious from the outset though looking at the criteria United should have made so much more of their community involvement, the diversity around the Lane and really failed dismally on that score.
Allowing Wednesday to take the lead with the world's biggest classroom after the amount of effort that has gone into community projects across the city was simply a complete balls-up by whoever ran our bid.

It looks like people are making certain assumptions.
Has anyone seen a list of criteria required for the bid?
Does anyone know Who presented the bid to the FA ,(was it the council or other city representitives)?
Could the FA have given guidelines to pointout that in a 1 city 2 stadium bid they would only choose 1 stadium?
If the council (or city reps) new certain facts about the bid favouring swillsborough then SUFC should have been informed.
How was the bid presented -just paperwork and video or verbal?
Loads more questions.

The capacity for Sheffield City Council to spend money on stupid things is pretty impressive.

I've seen the list of criteria.
We were in with the council and Wednesday.
I think our stadium failed full-stop, regardless of 1 or 2 stadium city bidding.
SUFC are not little kids and should be well aware of what the criteria were.

Looking back, United tried to make way too much of heritage - though maybe they were worried about the iconic status bit in the criteria - and way too little of community. Our heritage should have been heavily about the oldest ground in the world, not Sheffield FC.
If they'd been braver, they could have presented the multi-cultural area around the Lane as a World-in-waiting or some such PR tosh. Being able to say 100 of FIFA affiliates are represented in our locality would have been an obvious plus over the land that time forgot in S6.
But the biggest winner for Wednesday is Hillsborough Park and that will be the over-riding factor. Opportunity for lots of people to make money out of a fans park and FIFA like people, including themselves, to make lots of money.

Cheers for that but the FA must have made mention of gounds being ready and up to standard by a certain date?
It still seems like the public of a city who are supposed to be taking part are being kept in the dark.

Each submitting club had to sign a guarantee they could deliver their stadium plans.
That means Wednesday have guaranteed they will find the £20plus million they need for Hillsborough.
They aren't getting any from the council so their best bet might some kind of govt grant linked to the classroom (which won't come anywhere near £20m) but if I was doling out grants I'd think twice before giving one to a private enterprise which reckons it's going to make millions out of the World Cup.
Although it's disappointing not to be chosen I can see a lot more problems ahead for SWFC over this one.

It has to be looked at as all decisions by bodies can be scrutinised. If they have committed an ultra vires or not taken the correct information into account when making this decision then first it must be reviewed and secondly can be challenged by a Judicial Review. If for instance the decision has been made with "How can we give it to the pigs? I know we will use the land around it for fans as the reason" then it is possible to challenge this and the council (actually not Labour as the Daily united hating Samuels Mail tried to intimate by using the pig supporting MP's) will have to reconsider its position. Was the location of Bramall lane to all the Hotels in the city taken into account? and the fact that forty thousand folk will have to be transported rather than walk from their accomodation also taken into account along with the fact that Don Valley "Fans Park" is no nearer to Swillsboro than Bramall Lane? All these things need to be looked at as much to put our minds at ease as they do to see if the decision was taken fairly. I think even the majority of pigs fans can't believe their luck on this one issue, even if their club is going down the pan, their fear - my dream..

"Fan Park" Why can't fans go to the bloody game instead?

Thing is though HappyBlade it's hard to see how the planning process has been subverted in any way. It's pretty transparent and it's only about what you'd like to do and not whether you've got the dosh to actually do it.
Hillsborough's already a football ground so making a few alterations here and there, like Bramall Lane, should be relatively straightforward when it comes to planning permission.

Because FIFA need money-making ventures.
If I was a city centre retailer/publican/cafe owner I'd probably have wanted it at Bramall Lane though having said that if Denmark come to Sheffield again they'll drink the city dry wherever the games are.

A point was made on FH a few weeks ago about a drinking alcohol within the ring road.
stating that its wrong to be banned at present for the citzens of Sheffield and they will no doubt lift this ban for the world cup. RS was going to investigate this.
I may not have got that quite right but if i have then thats crap.

Yeah, but i think the city centre drink ban is aimed more at the loveable street rogues who wander the street's supping high powered stuff from a Blue Bottle and swear at traffic and passers by!
