THIS is why my Dad made me a Blade 39 years ago after his Grandad took him to BDTBL in the 50's, he saw Currie and Woodward, he saw the glory years of the 70's. He took me in the early 80's, in my first game, we beat Pompey1-0, Mike Trusson scored. We went to the Lane the Sunday after a postponed game a few weeks later when I was 9 and like a star-struck kid I met Kieth Waugh and my Dad met his hero Cec Caldwell (RIP)at the same time. My first memory as a Blade is the Boxing Day Massacre, I cried and cried, (I was 7) I was there when we beat Peterborough 4-0 home and away in the following season, I was there for the last game in front of the kop... I was there v Palace/Wolves/Burnley in the play-off final, I was there v Leicester, I was there in the semis v Liverpool/Arsenal/Newcatle.

I am now the proud Dad of two lads, Sam & Alex, who both wear their United shirts with pride, they are 8 & 4, Alex is a bit too young to know whats going on. Sam though has got it, I came down stairs yesterday to hear him singing , "this city is ours" he didn't know the swear words but the passion was the same. We live in Leicestershire, all his mtes support either Leicester, Man U, Chelsea or Liverpool but he goes to football training each week wearing his Blades top pretening, (God bles him) that he is Ched Evans....

This is what makes us Blades.....

Take it he doesn't score very often then. Nice story, keep the faith mate

Funny you should say that, so do I, I can hit it like a train and score when you least expect it!

I know the feeling well I have lived in coventry for nearly 37 years of my 52 it would have been easy when we moved to have said when I was first asked when I moved here who do you support to say another team who was doing well, But here it is I was born a Blade and will die one. It must be easy to support a man u or arsenal ect. But each home game and as many away games as I can get too I set of with pride in my heart and even when things are looking bleak there is nothing more lifting than standing on the kop and singing the greasey chip butty. COYRAWW.

brilliant post torrix.. brought a tear to my eye that did {sob}.. i still have my BDM ticket stub.. i framed it .. people ask me why.. 'because that is what makes you a blade'

Lovely post fella.

When Palace scored yesterday my 2 boys raised their eyebrows and one said, "I don't care if we go down Dad, it's the same Blades whichever league they play in".

The overpaid dross will move on, we'll still love the club whatever happens.

:)

Time us supporters got up for the fight as well, isn't it?

No, its time the players did. They are paid handsomely win or lose and ought to at least show they are capable of winning the odd game. The supporters are passionate enough as they show by turning out in numbers every week and posting on here day in day out.

If half of the players had the attitude you show crazy, we might not be in the situation we find ourselves in. If they're not up for the fight then neither am I. I've already paid my extortionate season ticket fee, I cant do any more.

sometimes it takes the mind of a child doesn't it.. ultimately it doesn't really matter what league you are in.. it isn't like we're going to miss out on the champions league this year is it?? we're never going to win 'owt anyway.. i'm not expecting to in my lifetime at least

I said exactly the same in the pub last night. We're all cannon fodder for the tourist attractions. Either buy a Disney pass (ST for Manure) or just enjoy it for what it is - a day out with freinds and loved ones and love of a common goal - which never arrives...:)

someone once said "if you dont have faith, you have nothing" as ive said in previous posts, like the children im a blade, born, live as a blade and die as a blade.
been to our lowest ebb in league 4, after that other than being wendy it doesnt get worse. ill follow, blindly as someone said in a previous post because im a BLADE and because thats what we have always done.

thanks torrix
