Strangely when he was out of his comfort zone filling in at left back the season previous he was much more disciplined and played well defensively.

Kozluk was like that - I put it down to both players having to concentrate more in an unfamiliar position. It gives more focus and there are less mistakes made.

I don't think that Adkins is as confrontational as Clough was, but I think he is ruthless, especially if you look at the way he has chopped about a dozen players from club.

Back on to centre halves. I watched the Arsenal v Leicester game earlier and was very very impressed with their centre half pairing of Wes Morgan and Robert Huth. They did the basics very well and weren't afraid to put their bodies on the line. Morgan is little more that a journeyman defender and Huth has been around the clubs and never really been a first choice. I'd even go as far to say that Leicesters season this year has been built around those 2 and the impressive Schmiechel in the next
100% agree with that top line.
Adkins isn't nearly as confrontational but if he needs a decision made he'll make it.
Next season is the acid test, he'll have his own team.

Left out of the squad at Portsmouth today again. McNulty only on the bench and Bob Harris also an unused sub for Fleetwood

Clough looks more and more like a genius with what he got out of those players.

The only question now is was he a better manager than his dad?

Which one is really the best? Time for a poll?

Looks a bit less of a genius when you consider he signed most of them.

And he had Murphy, who won us a LOT of points last season.

Lol, Pompey & their bloated squad.
Scougs isn't playing any reserve football these days - maybe they could find a place for him in their u21s or on their bench?

Dimao started and scored for Chesterfield today. pleased for him.
Dimaio is no worse than any of our midfielders the few times i saw him and will be on no where near as much as every single one of them. Our transfer and recruitment policy has on the whole been nothing short of diabolical in terms of players in and money wasted.

I still don't get fans attitude towards clough.

Two semi finals and play off spot. The 5th place and loss in the playoffs was a dissapointment, but still, he didn't do bad in his short time with us did he!

I wouldn't have minded it if Adkins got us 5th place this year and into another semi.

Yet somehow Adkins doesn't get 10% the stick Clough gets.

I hope Clough gets Burton promoted, good luck to him. Wish he was still our manager.

O Grady is on loan at Forest but cannot get in the team.

Adkins is still only in his first season and still has a slim chance of promotion that's why he deserves a bit of slack, give the bloke a chance, ffs. This has been done to death, managers like their own players and Adkins won't be any different.

And lets get one thing straight, Clough had a very sound footing to start from when he went to Burton. Good luck to him but lets not make out that everything was great when he was here.

Why do you think clough would have signed billy? More likely Sammon would have been up by himself under clough
I didn't say he would have signed Sharp. My point is that without Sharp's goals we would be much further down the table than 7th. I'm glad we signed Sharp, and if you listen back to Clough's interview at the end of last season he had identified we needed a goal scorer and a centre half. Only one of those areas has been addressed by the current management.

What, such talent can't force its' way into those super teams?

I blame Adkins :)

There isn't one of Clough's signings that is worth more than we paid for them. A sobering thought. He wanted seven new players in the summer.

Adams is the only player who has increased in value.

There are a few players that were signed for a fee that will end up leaving for free. Higdon already being one of those players.

Che Adams is

Well if he isn't now he should be in the future, so I'll happily concede you that one. He also got a tune out of Murphy although he didn't source him (favour from McCall, signed under Wilson). His recruitment of players at Derby was much better, which is why he still required a huge budget last summer. Ageing, injury prone players with no resale value was his downfall. The worry is Adkins has copied the ageing part with his signings thus far.

Most of Adkins ageing signings have been on loan though due to the restrictively large squad. Hopefully, we can clear the decks in the summer and Adkins can bring in some more players on their way up (as well as one or 2 experienced heads)

Agree 100%. He's made public statements about signing younger players too.

Also set one up and got MOM.

Maintained for a while there's a player in him if he can kick on. At an age where he needs to be playing though.

How come nobody took him on loan before Chezzie snaffled him? If he'd gone out and progressed we might have had another option in our squad now. But he just rotted for a while then fecked off. Seems a shame given the debut performance he gave against Rovrum. :/

Preston away in the cup.....shiver.

No surprise Pompey are struggling. Doyle, mcnulty, freeman and Davies all failed here at a club who were expected to win promotion. They're at a club now where the expectation is similar and even in a league below they can't deliver.
