Wasn't there a dispute in the cup final which meant that there was no recordings allowed in the ground?

I thought i read that the only clips of the action was taken from some sort of airship which was quite a way from the stadium - hence very little match action caught on camera. I have the very same picture framed and up on the wall in my study...with a copy of the match day program.

This is the only photo I have seen of the goalView attachment 28049

Anyone notice the absence of the "D" on the penalty box. This wasn't introduced until 1937 and I'm sure United had something to do with it the previous year in one of the F.A. Cup ties when they packed the edge of the 18 yard line to impede the penalty taker. Any history on this Silent?

That was the 1936 final between Arsenal and the Blades

You are right about the D on the penalty box being introduced in 1937 but not aware about the controversy in the previous year

Let's clear this up....The ref cannot see if the united player is offside but the red line proves he is offside, therefore we should hang our head in shame for conning the ref....... And why the hell subuteo man is allowed on i'll never know!

What did he tell you about the day and who were his heroes?
My dad was born in 1904 and had me late in life (almost 50). He died when I was 15 so we never managed in depth Blades conversations (much to my lifelong regret and sadness).
However, he remembered the 1915 cup final and often recited the team to me and had me repeat it (as with the 25 & 36 teams). His heroes were Tunstall and Gillespie, he waxed lyrical about them, said Tunstall was the best striker of a ball he ever saw.

Fred got the ball deep inside his own half and went on a mazy dribble similar to Maradona in 86 v England, then 40 yard from goal he smashed it into the top corner, the goal was voted British Pathe's goal of the decade in 1930,the watching Duke of Windsor took a copy of the game into exile in Bermuda,he watched it every night before bedtime with Wallis,it made such an impression on him

Dont think the below is the Blades?

Ha no, I think you are probably right Silent. I found the photo and wondered who it was, thing is, I hadn't realised that I'd posted it ..... I woke up much the worse for having got stuck into the rum last night. My computer and I weren't seeing eye to iMac if you see what I mean and I was making a complete pig's ear out of the task of sticking some photos on my reply.

any bright ideas?
