Coventry at home in Adkins’ season. They had one over the line that George hid from the officials, McEevely should have been sent off for a terrible studs up challenge, we offered nothing all game then got a corner, everyone missed it, Billy tried to duck out of the way and it hit him on the back and bounced in the opposite corner. Least deserved win I can remember being at.

That 4-0 reverse after ripping Scunthorpe to shreds was bizarre. I used to tell people that was the best performance I’d ever seen from a Blades team. Then Wilder arrived!
I had a Coventry supporting mate with me that game. He'll agree with you. It was a total travesty our win. In fact last season we watched the game at Coventry together and we were not doing well. What we really needed was a Time Out so Wilder could have a word. Then some Coventry idiots had a protest and gave us just that. We went on and nicked it.

I remember West Ham beating us 2-0 at the Lane during the 2nd promotion season under Bassett and we absolutely battered them; something like 28 corners in the game and old Phil Parkes was like a 21 year old. That little wanker Mark Ward scored both their goals and I think Dicks nearly broke the crossbar with a 2nd half penalty too. Was that our first defeat of the season?
I thought it was the first defeat too. I am told (above it wasn't). Busy so I haven't time to check at the moment.

May have been first home game but I'm sure our first defeat was away at Newcastle, fat scouser Mickey Quinn scored. Revolution and Silent Blade will again confirm!
West Ham was our first defeat. Newcastle was our second 6 weeks later. Our third was at home to Blackburn on 30th December

Beating Ipswich at the lane, was the score 7-1 or 7 nil? Biggest score I've ever seen in person there.
THe biggest score I have ever seen was a 7-3 in our 4th Division days (as I remember). It may have been a cup game (?) and I think it was Chester.

Northampton I think. A tuesday night. I remember Heffernan scoring a screamer.

Northampton sounds right. I may be mixing it up with the twin hat-trick game (Dean and Agana), that may have been Chester.

The freakiest of all freak results has to be this one;

Charlton Athletic 7 Huddersfield Town 6 (21st December 1957)

Charlton played most of the game with 10 men and were 5-1 down with 27 minutes left.

They then came back to lead 6-5 with 2 minutes to go, Huddersfield equalised on 88 minutes only for Charlton to get an 89th minute winner.

It remains to this day the only time a team has scored 6 goals in a league game and lost.
