Nugent and Gregory? They Would seem like the obvious if not particularly inspiring choices for permanent transfers - especially if waghorn goes to derby

The permanents are Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.

"We put in two bids which would break the transfer record but both clubs value them more than £4.02m apparently"

I wouldn't really be happy with either of those.
Having said that we don't have a battering ram CF to change things - McG is not a replacement for Donaldson or Hanson.
Maybe Clarke and McG would benefit from playing with one of those.
If it's one of those and nobody else - that wouldn't really cut the mustard.
Ahhggghh WTF do I know?

I just think we need something different.

Either a big bastard to win balls and the other to play off but who can also play the ball and fit into our style OR some proper pace so we can stretch teams.

Gregory is lively and Nugent has scored goals at this level but I’m not sure that either are massive improvements. That said I know fuck all and it may well be someone completely left field.

I’d love perminants so they are our players - no point pushing the problem down the road 12 months if we can sign someone now.

Be great if we can break our precious wage structure to sign any of them.

I assume not.

Why would it be great? If Wilder thinks they're good enough it would be great if we got them as cheaply as possible. That sort of comment reminds me of what I said earlier in the summer in that some fans don't even care if a player is good enough or if they fit into our system as long as we can say that we've spent loads of money by signing them.

Also, the 'precious' wage structure is there for a reason. It's like me buying a really expensive car and then saying "it's great that I've completely blown my monthly budget by buying this really nice car", whilst the bank takes my house away.

What's it matter, we won't get any of them in on time.
The question should be: Which player we have tabled a bid for, is sat waiting in Sheffield station??

If we are going for players that others are interested in then we may as well pull out now and be realistic. A premier league loanee is likely the best hope now .
We've got one, Woodburn, and I know he hadn't played with us before, but he didn't really shine did he.
Let's hope he's better tomorrow!

Although its a very pessimistic comment you're quite right. Whens the last time we went up against a top 6 championship team (based on budget) and signed him permanently - appreciate we pipped Villa for Woodburn but not sure we would have if it was a permanent deal.

The likes we've been linked with so far would all fit in our system but we can't fit them in our wage structure.

You're wrong, we're not skint, we bid 5.5 for Waghorn. We could use that money to buy Hogan (as an example) most probably and mitigate the wage increase with the rest of the transfer fee... but the "wage structure" means that isn't possible.

Yeah it's not really meant as a criricism and it's just the way things are but outside of loans for young players we aren't going to be able to compete wages wise. On the one hand I applaud the ambition in trying to sign the likes of Waghorn or Freeman but we must know that if others are interested then we don't stand a chance of getting them.

There are a lot of things we can offer as a club but unfortunately it will always come down to how much you are willing to pay a player

'most probably'. Complete guess.

Indeed, that is a complete guess. But there are plenty of players we could pick up for cheaper in fee's who's wages are too high to fit within our wage structure. That was my point, I'm sure that wasn't hard to understand.

Wilder wouldn't have chased Waghorn for so long if wages were going to be an issue. You also have no idea what our wage structure is so any discussion on the matter is complete guesswork.
