Given Clough clearly prefers 4-4-2, Baxter deserves his chance to go up top. He's certainly got that bit of quality we need up there, maybe in a False Nine role

Is 12 goals from 48 starts an irrelevant stat when it comes to judging him?
In any case There's a notable difference in the ratio when he's been sub and when he's started. Not sure why that is? Not exactly been comeback-kings, have we, the last few seasons?NeverUsually Say Die? Has he come on primarily to waste time or defend set pieces? Does he need to be part of a pre-planned tactic, where the team are intent on giving him the type of service he needs, to convert?
Sothall_Blade you got me wondering and as I had a spare 15 minutes, I've trawled Soccerbase for some figures.
- Chris Porter has made 78 appearances for United with 48 starts (average 78 mins) and 30 substitute appearances (average 18 mins).
- He has 13* goals in those 78 United appearances. 12 of those goals were scored when he started the game.
- Nine goals were scored in the league, three have come in the FA Cup and one in the FL Trophy.
- He's never scored more than one goal in a game for United (that's poor for a striker)
- He averages a goal every 312 minutes when starting League games (or 0.28 goals per game, 13 in a 46 game season) but only has 1 goal in 547 substitute minutes (0.16 goals/game, 7 in a 46 game season).
- We've won more games when he's come off the bench with a win ratio of 52% against 41% - but those figures are skewed by the 2011-12 season when he made a lot of sub-10 minute cameos.
The upshot is that if you want Porter to score, he needs to start.
*I think a lot of sites exclude FL trophy goals. Porter scored at Don Valley when we beat Rotherham 2-1 in 2011.
No Goals Joe is not remotely good enough?
Ah, right. They are usually quite cryptic, and I'd not had much sleep either.I think that "Pretty Poor Predictions pinchy" was referring to "No Goals Joe Ironside" not "Can't kick Chris Porter"
And yet he likes son of Dwight yorke ??
Porter has only scored 8 league goals for us.
