Correct, manager's are meant to take on board a number of issues that hopefully will see a player develop and improve. Freeman and Coutts were two who might have been on their way, but due to Wilder and Knill's ability to make previously under-performing players up their game we ended up with a group of players whose contribution to our success last season was integral.
Although a different kettle of fish, some on here are already suggesting that Jake Wright won't cope with the demands of the Championship. Far too early to know of course, but the indefinable quality that brought the best out of Wright last season may still have a place this coming season. The why's and wherefore's of why Wright did so well aren't that important for me. I'm just delighted that what we saw was a player, admittedly in the twilight years of his career, being able to respond so well and with such class, enabling us to look a far better prospect than we might have if he'd been absent.
