have a feeling he chose to leave rather than get pushed. I'm sure CW saw the potential in him personally I'd have offers a 2 year deal whilst being loaned out for first would be beneficial for all, but he wanted first team football.

I think if Wilder wanted to keep him he'd still be here. Not even an offer of a new deal – he was very much on that released list. He offered Long new terms, so clearly was prepared to allow players time to mull over new deals – the fact he acted straight away with McGahey suggests he wasn't wanted by Wilder (at a time four other central defenders were leaving the squad too).

By all accounts he's had a very good season with Rochdale, and is starting to show the sort of form that made us buy him, and which he rarely displayed with us.

He didn't really get much of a chance did he? Hard to tell how good a centre half is when there isn't a midfield infront of them.

In hindsight, shame we didn't loan him out to Rochdale for a season. He'd have probably been a better option than Wilson going into the Championship after the respective seasons they've had.

Everyone's a winner in hindsight though aren't they, and I was really pleased at the time when he left. The fact that him and Hussey are the only mistakes Wilder has made in the market is a testament to how well he's done. Brought about 15 in, let about 20 go. That's about 33/35 bang on. What a record. What a guy.

This was the bloke that turned up at the Northern General with some injury he got pissed up at a party? Perhaps he was released for reasons other than ability?

Maybe he's grown up since then.

Ryan Flynn epitomised Sheffield United 2011-2016.

Good technical player but no heart.

As you said, 2011-2016 in one player although perhaps Baxter epitomised it more with the 'it could only happen to SUFC' element. I was going to say that at least Flynn kept his nose clean, but that could start a whole raft of Baxter coke puns again.

Bit harsh to call Wilson a "mistake".

He didn't get a lot of game time with us but I thought he looked completely the part at MK.

Must have been 25 minutes before I realised it wasn't Wright at the back

I was absolutely petrified every single time McEveley touched a football in a United shirt, told me everything I needed to know about Adkins when he was made captain
