When the team was announced last night I was a little upset that Basham (as I thought) was being moved back into midfield and replaced by Collins at the back. Was I shocked when I saw them lined up. Who in their right mind would have considered Edgar as a midfielder, in a position to receive the ball from the back four and find a united shirt in front of hm. He's a central defender, not skilled on the ball but that is never his job, or at least it shouldn't be.

Then the boss see's the errors of his ways and changes things after 20 minutes, but can anyone tell me what he changed it too, I've only been watching football for 56 years so obviously I've a lot to learn, but I had the impression that no one knew where they were supposed to be playing, and just didn't care if anyone realised it.

I don't know what's going to happen in the future, but the short term looks so bleak..

Oh, and our new loanee, oh well, enough said on that subject.

umm no Edgar can also play holding midfielder role.. i think he plays there at international level.. we went from 3 2 3 2 to 4 4 2 after twenty minutes.. to a flat back four and done went from left wing back to right forward.. and then played in about four positions after the substitutions..che looked utterly baffled by the whole thing.. i couldn't keep up with it either tbf and i was on the kop with a better view

Thanks SP, didn't realise he played that role for Canada, you learn something every day, hope our manager does too.

The lad struggles at centre half never mind as a ball winning holding midfield , not Adkins finest hour .in fact a big fuck off slap in the face for young reedy and for basham ,

We did em all, 1-3-5-2, 1-4-4-2, 1-4-3-3' center diamond, reverse diamond, okey cokey, leg hop, sommon sez etc.

Think our lads got confused, 2 Nigel's shouting instructions and we were listening t'wrong one.

heh quality :D
at the end we looked like schoolboys in a playground.. all ten charge after the ball. embarrassing or what?

My impression was he changed it to match up directly with Burton's formation (433) - i.e. entirely negative & an admission that instead of us making any attempt to impose ourselves on Burton, there was an acceptance they were imposing theirselves on us.

The Edgar-as-holding-midfielder situation (given how statuesque he was there) was baffling, dropping Reed (yet again) hardly fitted in with the "give youth a chance" mantra, & fucking around with the back three so as to accommodate Collins just seemed inept.

Like you say, the players didn't seem to have a clue where they were meant to be playing after the initial "Edgar experiment" was deemed to have failed.

It seemed to me last night that Adkins completely lost the plot which is really worrying going forward.

It was clear the players didn't know where they were supposed to be from one moment to the next.

Hate to agree, but Adkins is as equally culpable as the players last night.

5-3-2, then 4-3-3, then 4-2-4, then hit & hope.

Players confused on their roles, players out of position, and a manager overcomplicating the game.

We are getting close to Weir territory with performances, the players are certainly not playing for the manager, are the soon to be out of contract players downing tools?

2 goals in 7 games, whats happened to the free scoring Blades of earlier in the season?

The only reason I would stick with Adkins, is his record, if this was any other manager, it would be hard to defend keeping him, but I still believe in him, to clear the decks, and build his own side next season.

It was the most structured unstructured dollop of sh.te I've ever witnessed at down town bramall lane !.

Its all getting a bit.....

This thread picks up on the biggest thing I took away from last nights game. The rapid changes in personnel formations and roles can not possibly have helped the players one iota. For this, Adkins must accept the lions share of responsibility.

That said, a few of the changes were clever. Moving Brayford to LB was smart as he was getting roasted by their #10. Baptiste handled him much better. Clough in return spotted this and eventually moved their 10 over to the right towards the end !!

As a unit, we were, bluntly, all over the place and the service in to the front players is appalling. No wonder we ain't scoring.

We are still only 4 points off the play off spots and for the life of my I don't know how. This means we are STILL very much in the mix IF we can find some sort of form in the next 2 months. I am not holding my breath but you never know !!!
