Don’t disagree with your thoughts, but the problem with it is we’re selling 2 players and buying 2 players - the rest are loans which will help out this season, but we’re just kicking the can down the road

I’d prefer to invest in players like Burrows and accept this is a season of consolidation then go for it in 12 months with a young and settled side

If we do go down your road we’d have some team mind😂
Yep with you on that one my friend , with loans it’s always double edged sword .. you can bring in players that potentially help you get promoted without the transfer fee but at the end of the season they walk away & your back to square 1 and loans again . Not anti bringing some loans in but if your gonna build a team / squad you need continuity

Hear me out a bit...

If we can Sell Souza for 10-15m (lets face it, he's not that good and I don't think CH suits him at all), Osula for the same 10-15m + 20% of any future fee should be do well (25+ games not a single senior goal, if it meant we could get some bodies in I'm all for it) - Then we may be able to offload Coulibaly which may net us a bit of money on top

Thats 20m minimum, potentially 30m lets just go half way and say we make 25m off both. We could quite easily bring in 5 players with the sales money whilst also putting some to the shortfall from relegation.

Cooper - 3m
Gilchrist - Loan
Souttar - Loan
Hoever - Loan
Cannon - Loan
Dozzell - Free
A Striker - 5-7m

Possibly put some options to buy in Jan/End of season on the loans

That gives us 7 potential players for two outgoings, and overall I would class us as being stronger overall. The good thing about the Championship is, you don't just need a squad full of world beaters, you need consistency and depth aswell and this business would tick all the boxes.

Then once the takeover goes through (if it does) we can look in January and go out and pay for some very strong additions (if it is believed the board want to invest)
We would be lucky to get a Mars bar and a bag of pork scratchings for Souza.

I think that's guesswork. United can bring in loans and/or one or two to fill the gaps. There's also the possibility of one or two huge sales and big reinvestment at this level (Anel, Souza, Hamer, Anel, Arblaster). The squad is the bigger issue now rather than the team (keeper aside). Depth.

It's worth knowing that Chris Wilder took United up last time with a bottom six wage budget and only three players that cost over 500k (Lundstram 700k, Norwood 1.2m, Egan 3.5m) after reinvesting some of the David Brooks money. He also won League 2 with bankrupt Northampton who weren't even paying their players - he has form for miracles. We also have a few bright young things that could step up that are probably going under the radar.

I wouldn't dare to make an assessment until the end of the window tbh.
I'm making no assessments until the season is at least 6 games into the season. 6 games won't be enough for many sides. Players need to get to fitness and gel as a side.

Not getting excited about 1 result but the new players especially Rudoni are looking quite good. Rudoni is the O'Hare replacement but nearly a foot taller and much stronger. His deadball hits are more precise. He may have taken the piss out of Everton all game but a long season in the Championship?

If you manage to keep Hamer he will win you games with his football intelligence. The problem is if you sell him you won't be able to replace him. He is s one off.

2 Anels aren't we lucky

We always brought in loans that covered nearly half the side. Then at the end of the season they would go back to their clubs where we would have to start again. Yes they became better players but then leave at the end of the season. Then next season it is start all over again.

Yeh same happened to Burnley 2 seasons ago , promoted then all went back to parent clubs , then tried to buy in heavily last season to plug gaps & relegated .
If they don’t get promoted this season they will be in the shit . Went for instant coffee success & backfired .

Spot on 👍

We paid heavily for not bringing in loans. Most of our midfield got injured towards the end of the season. We put our players Importance I to the FA cup instead of aiming for the playoffs. We outplayed Wolves at their place and won. The Man Utd game is now history. But this season we have a settled side with a few additions.

Most of our side are now 6' and above. Ephron Mason-Clarke is looking a beast. Bought him in January but they took a 1m reduction on the player sale to keep him until the end of the season. Rudoni must be about 6'3 or 6'4 as he is about the same height as our strikers. They have been added to a squad that have either 3 or 4 years left on their contracts.

Your season depends on the takeover. If it happens before the transfer window closes and they are happy to seriously invest. If you wait until January the top 2 will most probably be out of reach by then. You have a few good players but you won't have a team. And at best you will be chasing the playoffs which is a lottery.
Cheers for the words of advice from Coventry, with all the success you’ve had recently I’m sure you know loads!

Yeah. We have been to Wembley more times in recent years than the rest of our history. We nearly went from League 2 to the Prem in 5 years. Before this we hadn’t finished in the top 6 in any division for nearly 50 years.

We were all over Luton in the playoff final until Hamer got injured. Last season we.beat Wolves at their place then the SF against Manchester United is history. We've kept every player we wanted to other than O'Hare where Rudoni looks better in every department.

But of course nobody knows how this season will go. We may have our best squad for about 30 years but we still need results on the pitch.

Cheers, the day we need advice from Coventry is the day we need to pack in. You’re our feeder club.

You sound very confident. I presume your expectations levels have increased , do you expect to be in the top 2 or this years
champions ?

Did you read the last line?

We have our best squad for about 30 years but still need the results on the pitch.

I would hope that we will be 6th or higher. But we do have reasons to be more confident of this. At about January we were wondering if our main strikers could get 20 goals between them. They ended up with 19 each. If they start this season as they finished the last one anything is possible. Our American striker got injured after just a few minutes in a 'tasty friendly' in Spain. He will be back in about a week. Simms is scoring for fun again. Was very unlucky to only get 1 against his old side Everton.

We were also a side that lacked height and strength. Rudoni looks an upgrade on O'Hare and is nearly a foot taller. Mason-Clarke who we signed in January but they kept him until the end of the season for a reduction of 1m of the transfer fee is a right beast. His goal against Everton showed us what he is about. Their defender ran into him but bounced off him and didn't put him off in the slightest. We won't get bullied by sides like Preston this season.

Preston beat Liverpool in a friendly the other week, I wonder if their fans think they’ll win the league on the back of it?!

Get back to blowing whistles, throwing tennis balls and wishing you still had John Fleck.

You're already going to struggle at the start of the season as your players won't know how their team mates prefer to play and will need to learn the system your manager wants to play.

So add to this selling remaining players that could help other players settle in and a quarter of the season will be gone before they are comfortable with each other?

My team has had a crap start to most seasons because of the same reasons. We were even debating in January if our two main strikers could reach 20 between them. They ended up with 19 each. Ipswich started last season with a settled League 1 promotion side and continued in the Championship to get automatic promotion.
Did anyone ask you to come on here and comment . We’ve got enough negativity here without your supposed friendship and feelings of empathy , which really is a thinly veiled piss take . So do one

Ahh yes the football manager ideology of how football works

Think you’ll be in or around the top 8 but a lot can happen between now & the end of the transfer window. Through gritted teeth I have to say Leeds are probably favs , Burnley , Luton , Boro , West Brom will be up there … as for us ?? …we’re a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment but the signings to date have been encouraging ..let’s see who we got through the door.. with a few more additions we’ll also be in the mix ⚔️

Every time i cringe about Wilder's Playstation Manager remarks, I have to think about threads like this...

Our activity in the transfer window and additional targets would suggest Wilder is not waiting for the "Takeover"

Are you a tad miffed at O'hare joining us?🙏
He clearly believes we have more potential than Cov or surely he would have stayed🤔.

I know we've not faced Championship opposition yet but we already look more of a team than 12 months ago, players finding each other quite readily, suggesting an understanding contrary to your assumptions👍

I think you've jumped the gun a bit pal.

If ya coming to Bramall Lane next March I'll buy you a Pint n we can compare notes.🙏

Good luck for the season🍻

How the fuck are we getting little bro'd about a league we've been promoted out of last 2/3 times of being in it? 😂 😂

I think that whilst we have a very limited budget in respect to paying transfer fees, we are paying good high end Championship wages, which is why O’Hare, Burrows have come to us rather than other Championship clubs. Leeds are one of the clubs probably out paying us (ie Bogle). For me - we have this 1 season to try & get back up if The Prince stays in charge. After that it will have to be more belt tightening.

Right now - if we keep Hamer, Anel, Souza, Arblaster - we have a competitive squad. Still need a better keeper, leader at centre half & another striker.

We have at least 90M pound of player in this squad we should absolutely smash the league so we should. With the additions we’ve made I don’t see another team in a better position.

Hamer- 25-30M
Arblaster- 20M
Souza- 20-25M

Coventry will do very well - good manager and good players , my outside tip for autos

Until the transfer window closes anything can happen. Keep Hamer and you have one of if not the best player in the Championship.

All sides....us included...will be hoping that they keep their best players. It's the sales like Hamer last season after the season had started that causes the most damage and at a time it is difficult to bring in a decent replacement.

O'Hare was supposed to be leaving for a Prem side. There just wasn't any takers. But with Rudoni as his replacement we are now quite happy. He is a very good player when in form but he gets targeted by opponents and doesn't seem to get much protection from the refs.

I took the takeover needing to happen off here and bringing in freebies.

Good luck also and hope you trounce the tramps up the road. The racism that came from them last season showed their true colours.
