Hello all. Just popping in to let you guys know what kind of way we will playing, what kind of team we will be playing & what you can expect from us. For those interested anyway...
A Billy Davies side. I think you all know what that means: A team set out to annoy the home fans, very very hard to break down and a team very hard to beat, sometimes I believe Billy Davies deliberately becomes a cock just to take the attention off the players and it certainly shows by his track record most places he's gone.
Anyway... Currently we are on a 'Billy run' (A run of unbeaten games, he seems to time them at good times and always has one in a season, currently on 16). For the past few months we have been playing 4-2-3-1 which has been working fantastic and isn't necessarily a counter attacking formation but more keeping knocking until they get tired or we walk it in.
We may be resting players. Not excessive resting, but resting players non the less simply due to our injury list and we CANNOT risk anymore injuries. This season has been the worst I can remember of any club, we have FIVE of our first choice players (and best players) out injured, and that's huge for any team. Not only are they out, but they are all long-term injuries.
That's our injury list. It should be crippling our season but surprisingly we are adapting well without that bunch.
- Captain: Chris Cohen. Nobody is as consistent in the Championship. Doesn't do the extraordinary, but is so consistent his work often goes un-noticed. In my personal opinion he is our best player. He's out until next season.
- Henri Lansbury. Don't need to say a whole load, him & Reidy have been credited several times as the best pairing in the league and they work brilliantly together. He's out until the end of the season.
- Kelvin Wilson. Signed for £2.5million from Celtic but not hugely missed due to the incredible appearance of Jamal Lascelles.
- David Vaughan. The Welsh Xavi.
- Eric Lichaj. Pushed Chilean international Gonz Jara out the team at the start of the season.
This is how we will probrably line up:
Those middle three often rotate all match and they are the key players. When all fit we have Lansbury, Vaughan & Reid and they are unstoppable together. Reid will obviously be the more attacking of the three but he is a changed player, and our key player. And yes, those are fullbacks. Out of possession they will be deeper but in possession they are literally wing forwards, especially Gonzalo Jara who bombs down the wings, but he may be in midfield due to our current injury crisis.
Andy Reid is extremely slimline and a changed player, in the best form of his career. This sums up what he is doing this season in a 5 second clip. He is the key of our team at the moment. When he clicks, everybody else does. Get tight on him or he will punish you.
Another one to watch is Jamie Paterson. I had my questions about him at the start of the season but ever since he got a hatrick against a youthful West Ham team he has been quality. He seems very lightweight and needs to bulk up, but he has incredibly close dribbling skills, he will weave in & out of players and leave them on their arses.
Finally: Rafik Djebbour. It may be a little pre-mature adding him as a 'one to watch' but he is not even match fit yet and getting starts every match which sums up how highly Davies rates him with the likes of Darius Henderson & Simon Cox on our books. Usually Davies gives players a month or two to get in his teams, but he is straight in and can finish chances very well which is what we have been crying out for all season. I also have a question for you guys as I will be coming on Sunday (assuming the match will be on)... Where can away fans go about parking around the ground? It will be my 3rd visit to Bramal Lane but I can't for the life of me remember where we parked before and with us selling out our allocation about 3 times their may be a lot looking for spaces.
