I recall over the past months, on various other forums, that we have been linked with a young French forward, a free-scoring Roumanian forward, a Hungarian centre-back and an Egyptian full-back.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am all for recruiting sensibly and putting together a good, solid, reliable and successful team but couldn't we persuade the powers that been down at the Lane to add a fair bit of glamour from far away lands?
Perhaps we could revive the contacts with Antonio Ubaldo Rattin and our very good friend Alejandro Sabella maybe even, as I a told the modern way is - reach out to other parts of South America?
I am looking forward, as I am sure every other right-thinking, intelligent football supporter is, to seeing us rise through the leagues as success follows success and we leave the rest of the Yorkshire mediocrity in our wake and take our proper place as one of the leading clubs in this country - which we all know we are.
However, with my hand on my heart, I cannot see that happening until we start investing in foreign players - and Scottish players just simply do not count.

BlairBlade who would you suggest then? I'm quite sure our league one scouting budget doesn't stretch to a 3 month trip to Argentina in the hope that an up and coming star is willing to sign for a third tier side they've never heard of... And even if they're excited as Juan Sebastian veron to sign for the Blades, it's unlikely that they'll get a work permit unless they're an international already.

If we make it through all that then the lad has to settle on his own in a land far, far away from home... It's hard enough to drag some English players away from the south let alone 5000 miles.

Swiss, you're such an old cynic. Waddya mean a team they've never heard of? Now we might not be the powerhouse of European football we once were, but there's still a cachet to the once mighty red and white wizards.

Listen mate, you're an international wheeler-dealer, you know the difference between a Balthazar and a Methuselar of champagne, so you must be able to find your way around a work permit? Just one look at you and the authorities will know that you da man, so come on Swiss, start pulling them strings mate, your international contacts must extend as far as, ooh I don't know, the Isle of Man? C'mon Swiss, we need a magician up front, one of those 40-goals a season merchants who'll be happy to play for minimum wage, and if anyone can pull it off, it's you mate UTB

The only way you might get such as South American players is to get school boys, bring whole family here on a spurious job
For his mum or dad then sign him to academy.
Which apparently is similar to what Barcelona did with messi, I'd say worth a few grand to send a decent youth scout to South America , uncover 1 little gem like him and then we can sell him on for a vast profit, maybe even enough profit to take the whole first team (not subs of course) to greggs for a sausage roll, sky's the limit

Ha Ha unfortunately if you’re sticking your hopes on me unearthing a Maradona or a Messi, then I’ll have to disappoint. South America has never been my territory. I tend to foray around Europe, Russia, Middle East and Far East, so far failing to unearth any gems yet.

I'll keep looking, though it seems that Man City have taken up the idea which I mentioned to Julian Winter a few months back and linked up with Yokohama Marinos ;)

What can I say, I’m ‘special’. :)

It’s a good point though. People in my industry have no problems uprooting on a regular basis from Contract to Contract, barely settling before its time to move on, yet footballers have a reputation for struggling to settle. Carlos Tevez and Toure being two fine examples. I’m sure in most cases the agents initiate the move. Whereas in my industry, the agencies are working on behalf of the Operators, rather than the individual. So in most cases they’re not allowed to tout you out to other clients whilst you’re contracted to a project.
