For the love of God have someone attack the front post

Title pretty much sums everything up.

Yes most of the crossing was on par with what Stevie Wonder might produce, but is it really too much to ask for someone to get in front of their first man. Even a crap cross can be turned into a great one if someone flicks it on into a dangerous area.

With the amount of bodies Walsall had behind the ball, we were always going to struggle to actually pick out another Blade with a pinpoint cross. A goal seemed much more likely to come from a cross that wasn't cleared at the first attempt, bit of a scramble, then someone sticks a loose ball away.

Problem with this is neither Sharp or Clarke want to be the guy flicking it on getting the assist. When the wingers looking to cross it they both want to be the guy 6 yards out, centre of the goal getting the tap in and the plaudits. One of them, or both, needs to put the team ahead of their own statistics. Ironically if both started doing this then the stats would start to improve, and we might just have a useful partnership on our hands...

Agree with OP but I think the solutions we need to find go wider than just attacking the front post. We're playing good football and we are dominating games and we're going to face "park the bus" defending in most games at BL (and some away as well) for the rest of the season. It stands to reason that the outcome this season will depend on our ability to break this mass defence down. If I was going to be critical of our play last night it would be that we were too predictable - I'm not advocating hoofing - far from it I love the control and movement we are seeing from the team but in my opinion we do need to mix it up more. In the last 5 minutes we sent EEL up front, why not do it for 5 minutes at the start of the second half for example or half way through it? Our build up play from the back allows the opposition time to set up - some times we needed to be more direct. We really need to work on creating fractions of room to get more shots off from the edge of the box, we were almost looking a bit Arsenalish at times last night because we were looking to walk the ball in.

Clearly we didn't have the luck with us last night, on another night we could have won that quite comfortably, this little run we are having is not a crisis but I do think we need to be more flexible and have as many weapons available as possible in order to break down full on defensive approaches.

Mark Duffy, as essential as he is to the team needs to pack it in with the wanktastic long range glory shots, it's fucking infuriating. They invariably end up well high and wide of the target and usually land somewhere in Lincolnshire.

It's about getting in front of the defender and /or the keeper at the near post and causing a distraction or getting a touch so the cross gets into the danger area or even scores a goal from there.
