You have just signed the biggest joke in the history of professional goalkeeping. Wet, weak, nervy, scared. His shambolic performances will wreak havoc in your defence.

I feel very, very sorry for you. Westley in charge and now Simo. Can only hope he aint first choice for you.

No message from Dizzy Rizzy?

for all simmos mistakes we still got 90 pts and made the play off final and kept 3 clean sheets in the play off games ?
i think i would sooner have simmo after howards flaps on saturday v burton but we'll have to see

we haven't had a good keeper since Kenny.

I'd like to know how Risdale can keep splashing the cash ?

Simmo was like the curate's egg. And as for Howard, is he frightened of giving a handball, he doesn't seem to want to catch it...

I miss the days of a stream of good and great keepers (in my time anyway).

Kelly, Tracy, Rees, Kenny... even Mercer and Barnes would be preferable to the last couple of keepers we had.

Hang on, hang on, I thought the grass was always greener everywhere else?

I'd rather read about evil McCabe

Ps I thought Mark Bunn was the biggest joke in the history of professional Goalkeeping

PPS how come this is in General Blades Chat?

I'm confused....

Mark Bunn is amazingly being linked with million pound move to Norwich. A 500k bid has already been turned down.

World's gone mad.

When we had, in the second tier, Tracey, Kelly and Andy Goram as our 'Keepers. Damn.

You can take it back to the sixties when the England international Alan Hodgkinson ruled the roost.

Aside from the John Hope(less) years we also had Tom McAlister (potentially the best of all pre Marsh) and Jimmy Brown (more than adequate) who saw us through the mid seventies.

FAO Daz

Fancy listing our keepers of recent decades? I'm fairly certain there were a couple of others after Ned and Trace who were easily good enough for our current side.

All the keepers who played league games from Tracey's league debut to Kenny's departure, not including Alan Kelly:

Phil Kite (11 games, 1990-1 and 1991-2)
Mel Rees (8 games, 1991-2)
Mervyn Day (1 game, 1991-2)
Billy Mercer (4 games, 1994-5 and 1995-6)
Andy Goram (7 games, 1998-9)
Aidan Davison (1+1 game, 1999-00)
Frank Talia (6 games, 2000-1)
Wilko De Vogt (5+1 games, 2001-2)
Gary Kelly (1 game, 2002-3)
Paul Gerrard (18 games, 2003-4 and 2006-7)
Lee Baxter (1 game, 2003-4)
Alan Fettis (2+1 games, 2003-4)
Ian Bennett (15+1 games, 2004-5 and 2006-7 to 2008-9)
Phil Barnes (1 game, 2004-5)

I wrote a rather long post about this bunch in November 2009 that I would link to if I knew how!

Since then there's Bunn, Simonsen, Ikeme, Wright, Long, and probably others I'm forgetting...

i am sure he is not first choice plus maybe good move for them when it comes to experience and will give them a good insight as to how the opposition play including us.

Cheers Rev.

I reckon those in red would be first choice now (going on their level of ability when they played for us). And the many of the others would be a close thing!

Is Baxter the guy who was hauled off at half time after letting in three goals on his debut? The phrase "He couldn't catch a cold" springs to mind.

How come Andy Goram is only in there once? ;)

Mic, just a thought, but you might get a bigger audience of PNE fans if you were to post this typically insightful and positive contribution on a PNE message board, I doubt there'll be many of them on here.

Really? I thought Paul Gerrard was bobbar! Steven Gerrard would be better suited in goal. Talia was awful too

Think you're being harsh.

Simonsen was an excellent shot stopper and i'm sure he got us out of more situations than he put us in. Obviously we remember the mistakes more.

Like not coming properly vs. Weds for their 2nd goal. The year before at Forest when he was in no mans land etc.

But, nobody ever says if Simmo hadn't made those 2 saves we would've lost. Always negative stuff against him, never positive. He took a lot of flack.

Simonsen's main area's of concern were crosses. He didn't command the area and he very rarely punched.

Other than that, he was a good keeper IMO.

And another thing.....

Your avatar of Peter Shreeves just makes me want to argue with you even more.
