The bloke in charge of the "Blazing squad" admitted that 80% of the time no fights happened due to the police getting in the way or the other firm not turning up.

I am sure there was a follow up comment along the lines of "haven't the police got better things to do" Obviously not.......

hundreds saw the police wait outside the sportsman as the fans came out they were beaten with truncheons, this included old men and women who had nowt to do with it so dont call me a liar, i saw it you muppet

Outside a busy football stadium with CCTV and police evidence gatherers everywhere, they waited outside just to smack innocent people with truncheons? Hmmmmmmmm.

.no. the bbc were in there aswell as innocent people, they just went for everybody who came out,1 by 1.
when i was arrested at a derby game a while ago i was dragged to bp station forecourt.i was given a kicking. i made a complaint of police brutality.when my solicitor went to find evidence, he went to bp petrol station. they said the police had already seized the cctv from that night. after a few months my solicitor was told that the tape no longer existed.it must be lost.funny that ? does that not surprise you ? everybody in the country knows what south yorks police are like when it comes to cover ups.

They are the biggest firm round here.... South Yorks Police.

From a friend who was in the sportsman that day " The police formed a tunnel outside the pub that you had to get through to get out. A gauntlet of coppers either side you had to go under to get out. You knew you were going to get clobbered from either side regardless of if you'd done anything or not". My friend said he just ran as quick as he could getting punched kicked and truncheoned as he covered his face and run. Then photo's taken by the police for good luck afterwards.
Wankers

The football stadium wasn't busy, as I believe it was the evening of the derby game and therefore hours afterwards (sure we had been at Hillsborough as well...).

its always been there ,ive been going to bdbl since 1962 ,i saw it then and still see it now . most are football fans without a doubt .if people have never seen it they must have been going around with their eyes closed . 60´s n 70´s was unbelievable with literally hundreds in mobs running around fighting and wrecking places . its never gone away, just that now its in much much smaller numbers .

Bloody hell I've been staggering round the bars of Nerja for years and never gone into yours-how long's it been there? Did go to a Blade staffed bar top side of the Balcon 2 years ago the night we were on Sky v Notts in the League Cup-any connection?

I've stayed at the balcon but don't recall seeing any Blades

I'd heard of a bar in Nerja that was run by Blades , was best man at a wedding there last September , stayed in an apartment in the square behind the church , had a little scout around but had no luck in finding it ,
Was hoping to go over in September of this year , for the first anniversary , but I can't get the time off work .

You are incredibly naïve if you believe this doesn't happen.
I'm not suggesting for one minute that innocent fans don't sometimes get caught up in incidents or that innocent fans don't sometimes get arrested, I doubt very much that that the Police actively 'target' innocent fans. I've followed the Blades home and away for as long as I care to remember and also been with friends to other English league clubs and never been arrested or targetted by the Police. But then again, prisons are full of innocent people aren't they so maybe I am wrong........

Yep, you're wrong, and rather naive, or maybe you're just really really nice.

theres still a few hundred active at united. probably a few more bbc2 (youth) than bbc i think. mainly come out for big ones like leeds at home.whilst not really involving myself, i received a 4 year banning order for sticking up for myself whilst being verbally abused and manhandled by s.y.p. i didint pay any attention to the ban and attended games as normal so they dont work ! there are too many cameras and and police around grounds now which is why you wont see alot of what does go off,it happens a bit further away. i would say south yorkshire police have nearly as many thugs as blades do. they love it, but what sets them aside is they target innocent people aswell.it is often the case that the police instigate incidents .i am sure many others on here have seen for themselves.

I've had a season ticket at Bramall Lane for 15 years, and get to around half of all away matches.

In all that time, I have never once been hit by an opposing fan.

I have, however, been batoned repeatedly on the back of the head by a police officer on a horse for "walking down the wrong road".

I remember when away fans and home fans used to mix on the Kop. Then around the mid 60's it all kicked off.
One of the biggest was the battle of Bramall Lane against Man City in the late 60's, was all over the papers.
In those days bottles and bricks were used. Most away fans began to go to the Bramall Lane end, you could see both sets of fans going past the cricket pavilion for a punch up.
A mate of mine (1951-2000) told me that the worst violence he had seen was the match you mentioned. He said shortly before half time at the Kop End Mick Jones headed in a Woodward corner to give us the lead and then there was a lot of fighting in most areas of the Kop (my mate was in the John Street Terraces). Police and St Johns were very busy for the rest of the game. The worst violence I saw was in April 1972 the running battle between Blades and Newcastle fans outside the ground in John Street (I was autograph hunting outside the players entrance and it was scary for a 10 year old as my dad had already gone to bring his car over from where he had parked it to drive it to John Street). I saw faces being kicked etc also my scarf was nicked by a young man who had pinned me against the wall. Two girls known to me were comforting me until my dad had arrived in John St with the car. He was furious that my scarf had been nicked so he went over to a minibus and took a scarf off one of them and then giving it to me. The scarf didnt look the same but I was proud of my dad although two wrongs doesnt make a right!

Batoned repeatedly on the back of the head by a police officer on a horse??? What was the baton made of? Foam? I think that your recollection of events may have been embellished following a few pints whilst telling your mates how tough you are. I doubt if you had been batoned repeatedly on the back of the head that you wouldn't have needed hospital treatment. Maybe your head is made of wood?

Or maybe I just don't hand around with shit or try to look big and hard by standing on the periphery when nobbers start scrapping. Of all the hundreds of matches I've been to I've never been batoned by police or targeted cos I'm innocent. I can't recall a single occasion where my mates or family have either. Not saying that the police are not heavy handed sometimes, I'm sure they are. But ultimately if you play with feathers, at some stage you get your bum tickled.

A well known Blade who lurks on here and is known to many ,was sent to prison for getting bitten by a police dog on John Street.. The good old days of concocting stories wasn't uniquely for Scousers and Miners.

I quite fancied becoming a hooligan and sent an application off for it once. Never heard anything back though. The government saying the jobs are there is bollocks.

There's hooligans, and then there's the ones that don't bottle it when confronted by Neanderthals. If any of these kind came anywhere near, back in the day, while I'm casually walking to an away match,I'll stand aside and let them pass. I I can turn the other cheek. But if they take liberties there getting it.

We had some of the Forest (scab) crew on here recently, bragging about what they would have done to us if they didn't have their kids with em.
Apparently condoned by some Fckwits on here
