Normally you could have joined me in the Guayaquil Blades exiles bar (situated next to the British consulate).

But I have been told that my seat had been given to a visiting Forrest fan who threatened to smash the TV if he didn’t get his own way.

I would suggest nowhere indoors due to violent crime against tourists and nowhere outdoors due to tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanic activity. Other than that you should be fine.

Due to their universal appeal, all bars in Ecuador are Wendy-friendly. If you set foot in one with a Blades shirt on, you'll get accosted by people speaking very quick Spanish, using quotes such as "Todos somos miércoles, ¿no?", "Nosotros llevamos cinco mil a MK Dons" and "Todo el mundo en la Premier League quiere que volvamos allí, somos un gigante dormido".

After being roundly mocked for seeking company the last time we were in the playoffs, this year I'm stranded in Crete, meaning I can't attend tomorrow's game. Blame my girlfriend, a Manchester United fan, who fortunately received a healthy dose of karma on Wednesday night.

Are there any other Blades currently in Crete, or can anyone recommend a decent sports bar to watch the game at?
