Anyone notice after the first goal ,Davies ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with Blades fans in our half and the whole team followed to join in. Barnsley tried to take a quick kick off which they were well in their rights to do and would have had a free shot at our goal and surely scored ,except for Flynn. He bent down and undid his laces then tied them in the centre circle despite a bollocking from the biased bastard called a referee and the Barnsley players manhandling him into our half. Gave us enough time for our players to wise up and saved a certain goal. Top man.

How did that shower handle the premier league ? A 2 mile detour back to the car ,SYP are a joke.

I didn't go but it's great seeing our best player with the lowest mark. Shows we can still have a top performance with not everything going through Murphs.

Every player for us was excellent today. I thought the stand outs were Flynn, Basham and Kennedy. We well and truly embarrassed Barnsley. When was the last time our fans chanted 'easy'?

Good point , wasn't Murphys day today ,they marked him up well though which makes it easier for other players. Still easily player of the season for me.

Flynn ran his knackers off today, thought Harris was a different class too.

Great spot that, from your good self and Mr Freeman. :)

Intersted in hearing more about Coutts after today. What bits of his game improved. Did he provide more probing passes etc?

I was thinking about this and thought I remembered a rule that the referee has to check both goalkeepers are ready before kick-off. Apparently not though and to be honest I wasn't sure I'd ever noticed it happen.

I think he has a lot to his game, he has great vision, can find a long and short pass, and can also run with ball showing a lot of strength surprisingly. Best of all for me he gets his head up and always looks to keep possession. I think we have been a bit hard on him he has come into a side that changes personnel quite regularly that is in and out of form. I think he will be a big improvement on Doyle and Baxter eventually when he gets a settled partner ( Wallace) or even a 3 man with Holt and basham . I also think he will be better suited to higher division. I just hope cloughy doesn't play him wide, he is much better in the middle.

It is significant that his 2 best games have come when partnered with Basham in midfield (Bristol and Barnsley).
It gives us a solid core and allows the other flair players to not worry about covering.
As for right side midfield - That's Clough to a tee - he is just not comfortable there, although he did play it for Derby with Brayford.
It has to be centre or nothing - and again what is significant - no Doyle......is that it now for Doyle?

Coutts was MoM for me and FJS today - possibly alongside Basham - though he (Basham) conceded possession a couple of times. A lot of appreciation for Coutts in the places around us as well.

He gained and kept possession really well. Moved the ball simply and intelligently. One outstanding 40 yard pass. By the end he was toying with their defence: putting the ball one way round the defender, running/strolling the other way to get in a cross.

Posted about his performance about half time - first thing he did second half was lose possession, but iirc that was the only time all game.

Beating heart of the team and all that.

As pointed out in the Team for Barnsley thread he wasn't in anyone's starting line up. He wouldn't have been in mine either.

Hope it's the start of great things.

Did someone say he used to captain Preston in Division 2?

You could say the same for Baxter. I wouldn't write anyone off, they all have a part to play.

Great find.

This one gets a mention in the Comments

One of the comments on the Gibraltar video is, "that is why you celebrate in your opponents' half." <disappears off to check the Laws of the Game>

Couldnt make it today but if what you saay is true flinnaldo deserves a medal for doing what he did.Its alright celebrating
but 1-0 is not job done especially first half and i would think clough will let the players know how it could have gone pair shaped if they were allowed to take tha kick off quickly. But having said that you could see the togetherness the players showed (video) and that is very important at the business end of season (play offs) you could see there is a bond there and
we will need that as the tension and pressure mounts bring it on!!!

I always thought the rules stated that all players have to be in their own half of the field before a kick off is taken. Shows what I know!

There's been a few players showing a huge amount of passion in their celebrations recently. Holt gets really excited and I remember McNulty begging Baxter to take the 2nd pen vs Scunthorpe, which he was having none of.

it could have gone pair shaped

"Pair shaped" as in "tits up"?

Point was Davies had run the length of the field to celebrate in front of the United fans - so we were in our own half.

(Hence the comment, "that's why you celebrate in your opponents' half".)

As WHF says, that's exactly the point, apart from Flynny, they were all in our half. If the ref was encouraging Flynny to get back so he could restart the game, that sounds like unsporting behaviour and only one step away from the ref telling a player to fall over so he can give a penalty, it's not exactly being impartial.

I have to say I didn't see what was going on, disappointed that Foxy didn't get a close up of it :-) I'll have to look at the Bladesplayer footage.

if flinnaldo had nt held play up they would have taken a quick restart and walked the ball into our net ,Johnson said in his after match interview he likes winning ugly i think we should remember that next time we play them(hopefully never) it would have been ungentlemany conduct as arsenal did all them years ago and the goal would have stood and since johnson likes winning ugly there would have been no reprieve.well done flinny.

Yes, I think I was having a 'moment'. Good spot by Sitwell, and brilliant work by Flynny! On Foxy's video I can see 7 Blades players including Davies celebrating, Howard stays in his net. If Flynn's in the centre circle, not sure where the other 2 miserable buggers are? ;)

This game really sets it up for tuesday perhaps this could be the turning point of our season.great when we know how everyone will have got on on monday. should be really good attendence for us tuesday by the way anyone know if that was barnsleys highest attendance for them

A piss poor turn out from the dingles less than 12,000 of them in a crowd of 17,532 and yet some of the deluded twats think they are as big a club as us

“when all’s said and done, we’re similar size clubs. They might do us on gates, but Arsenal get more in than Liverpool, wouldn’t suggest they’re any bigger though. We’re a small town club and considering that, our attendances are impressive. I’m sure that were we to have an extra 200,000 people living in the town/city/borough we’d get 20,000 too.”

Bwhahahahahaha
