I went for a run earlier tonight and swam the last 2k (I’m joking).

I’ve seen loads of pictures of Matlock and that looks pretty bad.

We was supposed to be working in Matlock today and its surrounding areas and was informed by 6am this morning not to even attempt to go there. So we had to stay local around the Chesterfield area.

Then again we might not.

I walked the dogs down the Rivelin Valley early this morning and very wild as it was, it definitely wasn't as bad as 2007. The improvements in keeping the Rivelin, Loxley and Upper Don clear have benefited further downstream. Neepsend and Kelham have survived, as has most of the Lower Don Valley. The volume of water was such that it couldn't work everywhere and the Don crept over its defences at Meadowhell. Some daft teenagers along for the light switch on, had to stay overnight. That's not the same as 2007 when many busineses were under seveerral feet of water and a bloke died on the Wicker.

Rovrum got more flooding, possibly as a result of improved defences in Sheffield, and Donny is suffering today but on the whole things are much better than 2007. No one died this year in S Yorks (RIP the woman in Derbys), so obviously on that crude basis, it is obviously much improved.

Talking to the EA guys and police at the bridge on Retford road earlier and they had real fears it could collapse. If they opened the flow gate Catcliffe would be fucked. You choose you lose.

Might be wrong, but I was keep an eye on it on Thursday night because my office is on the wicker, think in some parts on the don the water level was actually higher than 2007, but improved flood defences stopped it from being as bad.
