Have you noticed adding a Y on the end of players names only really works if it has one syllable and doesn't end in a Y.

For example.

Flecky
Couttsy
Sharpy
Wrighty

All fine.

Science.

I'm curious to know why you propound a theory which uses monosyllabic names as its base and then use duosyllabic names as examples

Triggy

All of those names are monosyllabic, when the y is added they become duosyllabic.

The duosyllabic names I used were examples of how adding a y doesn't work.

He's not Coventry standard.

Trust me, he wouldn't have been 'United standard' playing under that plank Adkins. The Coventry fans saying Fleck didn't give a shit while with their team seem to ignore the fact that a crap manager can ruin a player and a very good one can bring out the best in them. Ask Coutts.

Our best player by miles, we'll do well to keep hold of him this summer. I can see top championship sides being interested, but hopefully I'm wrong on this one.

He's already playing for next year's top Championship side!

UTB

The Magic is Back

I prefer to call him the Pocket Souness mesen. First half, a nonentity (so were most of players to be fair). Second half, fucking class (THAT goal).

MOTM IMO.

Freemany
Ebanks-Landelly

Not fine.

Laffertyy

Also not fine.

According to some professors at the faculty of nick names, University of Bramall Lane, in those cases you use "O", not "Y", so it would be

Freemo
Ebo
Laffo

With Flecky you have the optional extra of adding -esta at the end.

For those guys sat behind me last night who spent the game calling Hanson a carthorse who brings nothing and Sharp only knows how to play for himself watch this angle of Fleck's goal and see who opened it up for him

I'm one for not calling players at all, and agree with your sentiments about supporters aiming vitriol at our own.
However, I don't see a lot in that clip that Hanson does. He did well not to get in the way if that's what you mean, but didn't block a defender from getting there, or really make a run. He just jogged out as their defence went out, then jogged back in again.
Wasn't much of a run there to drag any defenders away.

However...I do appreciate what he does bring, and that is being a right royal pain in the arse for defenders. He will always occupy at least one, often two by attacking balls which I suspect are aimed between defenders to drag as many in to the challenge as possible.
Works his nuts off and played his part even if he don't score.

Yep... it was Sharp.

Hanson was just stood towards the right side of the box.

If anything he helped make the space for Clarke's by being at the front post.

But let's not invent things to praise him for. We've seen it all before, especially with target men. I'm not denying Hanson's contribution but it's a little desperate to look to praise him in this instance. A better example of this sort of thing would be for Lafferty's goal v Charlton.

If holding the two centre halfs out which along with Sharps run opened the gap up (if he had gone wide the CHs would have closed Fleck down) and then being ahead of them on the follow up in case keeper saved is being stood about and inventing praise then I'm happy to invent.

He did nothing of note there, nothing that any striker wouldn't or couldn't do. You're effectively praising him for being stood on the pitch. He makes enough of a contribution not to have to go searching so hard for things to praise him for.

OK I bow to your knowledge of how taking two players out of the game works better than mine.

Interesting about Robert Fleck being his dad - hadn't put 2 & 2 together about that before reading this article.

Could you not see the family resemblance? Or was Uncle Rob a bit before your time?

Nah, I'd just forgotten about him tbh. But recalling him again now, I remember him being a hell of a decent striker (in a fine side) for Norwich. And, yeah, the likeness is pretty striking, has to be said!

Taking two players out of the game by standing in the only position he really could've been in!

We are a Championship side FFS

The clubs coming down will have enough of a squad to think they can bounce straight back

And the rest will not be any better than us

I know we're a Championship side, I said TOP Championship side.

Mid table will be a good season for us next year, there could be clubs with greater immediate ambitions than us who could be interested in him.

We could have sold Deane and Agana after getting promoted from division three last time

We didn't and got promoted again

The teams with ambition should include us, and if it still doesn't at boardroom level they want fucking with the blunt end of a rag mans trumpet
